i've been using this version since it came out, i set it all up, resolution and mayhem skin and so on, then i power it on a couple of days later and its all defaulted again. this is so frustrating, i think this is some new fail safe feature but it just doesn't work, can i disable it?
i could cry!
i can't believe i'm the only person seeing this fault, does no one else turn off thier xbox via remote/software?
i just installed xbmc version 1.0 and it still does it for me.
to reproduce the problem.
1. enable on ftp server.
2. screen calibrate.
3. set screen saver to 1 min.
4. set poweroff to 2 mins.
5. change your skin to project mayhem.
6. wait 3 mins for your xbox to turn off.
turn your xbox on and you will see all the settings are defaulted. *ie the skin changes back. ftp server disabled. all screen calibrations lossed.
im running a 160 hd and vga bios taxt, and a version 1.0

i have the same problems with the big red power button. *any time i use it to shut off the xbox, all of my xbmc settings reset to default. * happened in 1.0 release and the 8-18-2004 cvs. :verysad:
hi,
i tried out the 7/17/2004 build. now the idle timeout shutdown just freezes my xbox.

hi,
i'd love to test it but, how do i get my hands on the lastest cvs build in binary. i dont have the m$ xdk to compile the source from xboxmediacenter.de. i get my binaries off of *****
sundrums
yes tslayer that is what i have provided,
just to re-iterate 'every time i use the soft off power button all my settings default' but not if i use the soft reboot or soft restart or hard boot.
i do not piss about with my xbox all i do is update to a new release when i get it so its not because i have a flaky box, consequently it is easy to see when a new bug is introduced.
just happened to me too, turned the box on, tried to ftp into it but couldn't. checked the settings and all the settings were reset...
i know i turned it off with the powerbutton yesterday which i normally never do, i always turn it off with the gui-button.
i noticed the led was flashing red-green or red-orange (don't know excactly but it there was a lot of red) for a short while when i turned it on.
with the latest cvs version you have (at least aug 18th), please try the following:
1. reset using the reboot button - does the same thing happen?
2. make sure you enable full logging (in xboxmediacenter.xml)
3. press the power down button and check the logs. what are the last things logged?
thanks,
jonathan
since cheesyboofs can reproduce this easily, maybe he can do the soft poweroff that would cause the issue and then restart into evox or something, ftp in and show us the settings.xml after that. unless that is what you've already provided?sounds like a good idea, my settings.xml was already rewritten when it booted into xbmc. calibration.xml was reset also btw.
i tried out the 7/17/2004 build. now the idle timeout shutdown just freezes my xbox.
hmm you're right, it worked when i changed it but now it freezes, will check :)
@sundrums: what's the last line in your xbmc.old.log after you reboot when it freezes?
how do i get my hands on the lastest cvs build in binary.
please don't ask that, forum rule # 1
try a build from 11th of july or later ( as maybe/hopefully fixed there http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs....ev=1.24 (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/xbmc/xbmc/changelog?content-type=text%2fplain&rev=1.24))10-07-2004 fixed: auto-shutdown sometimes resets settings (hopefully) / charly
right i've pinned the bug down.
its the gui power off button (the big red one) when i use my remote to turn my xbox off via the gui it defaults all my settings, but if i get up off my arse and push the button on the front of the xbox off/on the settings are saved?
anyone else seing this?
right guys please help! every time i turn my xbox off it defaults. i have cleared out my config folder and all i can find in my xbmc.log is:
13-05-2004 21:26:40 starting...
13-05-2004 21:26:40 q is mapped to:harddisk0\partition2
13-05-2004 21:26:40 load settings...
13-05-2004 21:26:40 loading t:\settings.xml
13-05-2004 21:26:40 unable to load t:\settings.xml, creating new t:\settings.xml with default values
13-05-2004 21:26:40 lcdon: false
any thoughts?
well i was using 13-04-2004 and that was fine, so its crept in since then. i upgraded from 13-04 to 30-04 to get rid of the streaming bug. what is the newest most bug free version to date?

hi,
i also have this problem. when is setup the automatic shutdown and when the xbox shuts itself all my settings in xbmc get defaulted.
im running the 6-19-2004 version. i do not see any settings.xml files in my xbmc folder.
is there a fix to this yet?
thanks
sundrums
can i just ask who added 'topic: keeps defaulting to default settings, after a auto/idle-timer shutdown' to the topic of this thred? i started the thred and it was never about auto/idle-timer it was about the big red soft off button????
i've seen this as well.
if you check xbmc.log, you'll see that it can't open the the settings properly. i am not sure what happens that would cause this. but it is not related to the new failsafe thing that was added recently.. i don't think.. cuz i thought i was seeing that before it was added.
i thought it was just me too :)
ts
the settings are saved each time you alter them. it seems bizarre that the power button would reset your settings - somehow the settings.xml file must be getting corrupt.
please turn your xbox off using the big power button, and restart it but don't run xbmc. then, ftp the settings.xml file to your pc, and have a look at what it contains.
let us know what you find.
charly,
that's weird.. seems to be opposite of how this problem affects most people. seems that with most people, doing the soft shutdown causes the issue.
since cheesyboofs can reproduce this easily, maybe he can do the soft poweroff that would cause the issue and then restart into evox or something, ftp in and show us the settings.xml after that. unless that is what you've already provided?
i think it must be a hardware issue as mine does it on every new release but many people won't even admit there is a problem. i think that the devs and gurus have all got older xboxes as they have been in the scene longer and arn't seeing this problem.
i'm getting a new 160gigger on friday will try release 1 on it, i have no dought the bug will still be there....
oops, sorry.
anyways i was able to test the cvs build on 7-29. it worked great on my box. my xbox shutsdown after being idle for 2 mins. when i turn it back on all the settings are saved.
great job!
thanks
sundrums
every version has bugs.
each version has bugs fixed, as well as some new bugs. i always use the latest. a good idea is after you've made changes to your settings, go and backup your e:\tdata\0face008 dir.
ts
right i've just installed a 160gb hdd, formatted it with evolution x *and put xbmc version 1 on it and at last the problem has gone away. i set ftp to on powered off via the soft off button and when i turned my xbox back on i still had ftp, hooray!
ok, attempt nr 2 to fix this is in cvs. please test :)
i'm now on 18-05-2004 and it is still defaulting all my settings when i use the soft power off, has no one else seen this????
i know, i just wish the current bugs would get fixed before new features are introduced, with a concerted effort not to break something that was until then working. i suppose though it must be boring bug fixing when all you want to do is do something new. i presume that as the push for version one is under way that there will also be a push to get it as bug free with the current features as possible.
i of course have no idea what is involved in a project like xbmc!
version 30-06-2004 fixed my problem? don't no why, it did co-inside with the install of a new 160gig hdd which involved a full format and rebuild. i don't know why this would have fixed it as i tried purging my settings before by running the xbox up off cd and deleting the setting dir's, and as the xbox was defaulting, this should have purged the offending setting/error. all i can suggest for anyone still having this problem is to do a full rebuild, i'm now on 2004-08-20 and the problem has not come back.
me too, same problem. settings are lost, but on shutdown using the power off button on the main screen, but using the idle timeout shutdown.
using 1.0.0 final.
pain in the ass!
b
me 2, set the auto powerdown and most times it gets reset, very annoying
thanks butcher, least i now know i've got a f'in mutant xbox.
doesn't happen to me.
same problem here: the settings are lost almost every time after the box was shut down automatically... :sniffle:
moreover, xbmc always hangs up when i press the left cursor button with the shutdown timer option highlighted...
