Would these things be discriminatory towards minority's?
If so why isn't it discriminatory towards whites when when minority's have theses things?
Please use thought with your answer, Ignorant statements are not welcome.
"Would it be racist to have a White College, A white scholorship fund, a White tv station etc?"..........
everything that you have named exists
This question keeps popping up here..
In the past black people had no colleges that would accept them.
No scholarship funds would be granted to them
You would never see them on tv except playing domestics.
That is why you have black colleges, scholarships etc today.
Everywhere you turn on tv you see white people..check out NBC.
It's a white man's world. We're just trying to find our niche in it. Caucasian only Scholarship [Archive] - Ford Explorer Ranger Enthusiasts :: I think to name a station Black Entertainment Television is racist also. are not white can get a scholorship so much easier than white people, this is http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-100956.htmlHOME |
Because whites are still the majority and control these forms.
White colleges, white scholarships, and white TV stations all existed exclusively for white people to the exclusion of racial minorities until the 1960s.
Minority colleges, scholarships and media developed as a response to discrimination and exclusion by white dominated institutions and media.
I am serious.
There's already a white college, white scholarship fund, and when you think about it, the majority of TV is white. They're not discriminatory, in my opinion, but I don't like them (and I mean BET, black colleges, etc. too). They focus on race too much.
For example: All one race colleges seem pointless to me. What are you learning there that can't be learned at a regular college? It's seems like a lot (not all) of the people attending would be holding some kind of prejudice towards others, and the people who aren't like that would eventually start acting like that too. Regular colleges have their problems too, but not like this.
Hope you gained some insight from this.
TiVo Community Forums Archives - New scholarship created for whites only:: If you changed the wording in the scholarship from black to white, it would be a non-issue. Another post referred to the stunt as racist. It is, but so http://archive.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/history/topic/160477-1.htmlHOME | Persoanlly I don't think we should have any race-only things, it just means we are widerning the gap between races right?
D.Toonez you said "All colleges that were HBCU are now open to every race and some have the majority of white people in them."
This is because America's majority IS white people. This of course means white people will mainly be the majority... Cultures & Groups - Yahoo! Answers:: Yahoo! Because it's not like different races THINK or FEEL differently is it? We can all watch the same stuff!
Not to be offensive or anything but even though it probably wouldn't be racist, it would seem like it, because one of the things white people are notoriously known for is racism.
White people have had that exclusively for many years.
It's not discriminatory to whites when minorities have those things because they have been repressed by whites for many many years. When a minority has an exclusive fund, college, whatever, it does not prevent white people from advancing in society. When white people, the majority does this, it does prevent minorities from advancing.
I should think it painfully obvious that white people have always been more opportunity and privileges than minorities.
When most black colleges, the United ***** College Fund and the NAACP were founded, all colleges were white colleges and scholarships went to the only kids who could be accepted to them, white kids. BET and other black entertainment enterprises were founded because there were no shows featuring traditional family liefe in teh black community. Black kids were most often seen being raised by white people, and adults in black adults were most often seen (when they were portrayed at all) in 3rd tier jobs or working for white people. It is not unusual or unreasonable to see have instutions pressing for equality and opportunty for people who have not enjoyed equality or opportunity before. Yes, things are better, in large part because of intitutions such as those mentioned above and the NAACP. It is not discriminatory to reach for equality. White citizens have not had to do this and have had no need for these institutions. Sadly, there is still a need toady for those that exist for black citizens. I hope we are approaching the day when they will no longer be needed at all.
White people do have these things, its just that its not publicly obvious. All colleges that were HBCU are now open to every race and some have the majority of white people in them. I dont know what a black scholorship fund is though, but its discriminatry both ways to have one, I think? And BET is not for black people, its for people who are involved with black culture eg. RnB/Hip Hop etc.
You left out a WET (white entertainment television), and yes it would be considered discriminatory because someone said it was. Maybe it was Al Sharpton, I don't really know but it's borderline ridiculous.
