  • Hi kitch8, How the problem started might be cause by an ad-ware called "WebSavingsfromEbates". First do this and see if that takes care of the problem... if not, then try the other solutions I've posted. Open MSCONFIG (Start, then Run) and look on the startup tab and see if there is wjview listed there. If so you can uncheck it, that **should** get rid of the error. =============================================================================== DVForums http://www.dbforums.com/t862825.html The error is caused by adware on your computer. Go to this link and follow the instructions there: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/WJViewError.htm Also download AdAware 6.0 Personal and install it. It will scan your files and drives, then identify, quarantine, and delete all adware items on your computer. I did this when I had the same problem. Just be sure to use AdAware once every day to make sure you get no more adware. ***My note: no need to run it everyday... once a week is plenty in my opinion. More on that at the end of my answer.*** ============================================================================== Annoyances.org http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1077414404 re: wjview error Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 5:46 pm Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by deb m [find other messages by deb m] Try this going to this URL: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831427 I was having the same trouble with my "at home" older computer (Windows 98), and it worked for me. I didn't, however, muck about in the actual registry, I just used the portion under "resolution" where you go to start, run, etc. I think it had something to do with the WebSavingsFromEbates that we seem to keep getting. I would get rid of it, but since it was checked as a "startup" item, it kept trying to launch, even though it was no longer there. I "de-selected" the "websavingsfromebates" and another adware item we got somehow, restarted the computer the error message was gone. Hope this helps. I have learned more about my computer by having things go wrong - - It's darned annoying though. =============================================================================== From Microsoft Knowledgebase: "WJView error Could not execute main" error message when you start your Windows XP-based computer: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831427 NOTE: To remove the remnants of this spyware [if present], download Ad-Aware and update it to the current definitions using "Web Update" feature and scan. =============================================================================== I personaly use SPYBOT, AdAware and Spywareblaster which are Spyware removal tools. All are freeware, easy to install and use and remember to check for updates prior to running. I suggest once a week would be frequent enough. SpyBot-S&D : http://www.webattack.com/download/dlspybot.shtml Ad-aware : http://www.webattack.com/download/dladaware.shtml SpywareBlaster :http://www.webattack.com/download/dlspywareblaster.shtml Then run at least **two** of the SPYWARE detection applications to check for viruses. Online Virus Scanning http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9059 http://security.symantec.com/ http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm http://www.pcpitstop.com/antivirus/default.asp =============================================================================== Lastly, I also found a few references on the web similar to the following, however the problem most likely has been caused by spyware installed on your computer. ExpertsExchange question posted you may need to install the latest build of Java Virtual Machine. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win98/Q_20835572.html Download information: http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html =============================================================================== Google search: WJView error Best regards, tlspiegel
