I'm an amateur photographer. Now that it's cold outside, I've run of ideas of things to shoot. Any ideas?
landscapes are the focus of most winter photographs, or human interest, like family interactions at a park, though this can freak ppl out if you dont have their permission :P
-Christmas trees
-Animals
-Macro nature
-panoramic mountain shots Ely, MN Chamber Of Commerce - Winter - Read About Ely:: we met that day were kind and interested in making sure we had a good time. the idea of bringing excitement to their little town in the middle of winter. http://www.ely.org/winter/read_about_ely.phpHOME |
-sunset with snow on the ground
-Ski lodges
Here's some examples:

Tips:
-With snow scenes, get low to the ground, or WAYYY above (like on a mountain)
-Bring extra batteries, the cold makes batteries last not as long

The fee booths are closed for the season and quite often you have the park to yourself.
You are going to find scenes that no one else ever sees. Just grab the camera and go look.
Outdoor closeups are really good in the winter if you have snow. even just a little snow, it reflects the sun perfectly! Try taking something that's frozen over (ie macro of a plant or landscape of a beautiful pond) Barns, People shoveling, kids sledding. Christmas lights!! Holiday anything. Hope that helps
A good time to learn table tops and still life
Trees.
Why does cold make a difference?
In the summer did you stay indoors with the air-con on because it was too hot outside.
Didn't think so.
As a photographer I'm sure you are willing to brave a bit of a chill in the air to get some good shots.
Put a coat on, keep your batteries warm and get out in it.
Go on. Show us you're made of sterner stuff than Wussy McWuss from Wusstown. You know you want to.
Seriously, of course do all the indoor stuff when it's cold 'out there', but don't let that limit you. Restricted conditions are a great way to stretch your imagination - when things don't fall into place, you move around the place so you see the other possibilities which weren't obvious in the Summer.
Look at the views which bare trees open up, look at the way we all behave differently in different seasons, catch a sunrise at 8 o' clock instead of 5 o' clock.
We really do think differently when when it's warm and when it's cold - shoot what that means.
And if it snows - fantastic!
Good luck, and wrap up well.
