Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.
Catholics and many other Christians believe in the Communion of Saints where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, the family of God. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.
Catholics pray to (communicate with) saints but do not worship them. Therefore no commandment is broken.
With love in Christ.
Are you a total moron? Praying is not worshiping!! Catholics pray to Mary, the mother of Jesus, to intervene on our behalf.Being a good son, Jesus would be hard pressed to deny a request by his mother, wouldn't you think? It is the same with the saints. They were made saints through the miracles that God worked through them. I would imagine that running the universe would be a big job and God would need plenty of assistants to help.
You should use less judgmental language when you ask questions, it is very offensive. I realize that there is a lot of bad PR out there when it comes to the Catholic Church these days. However, only God has the right to judge any of us. Why Don't Jews Believe In Jesus?:: Jan 13, 2000 Why Don't Jews Believe In Jesus? For 2000 years, Jews have rejected the Christian idea of Jesus as messiah. Why? http://www.aish.com/spirituality/philosophy/Why_Dont_Jews_Believe_In_Jesus$.aspHOME | I pray to all spirits those of my family..ancestors..saints ..they help interceed with your requests ..the more praying with you the better
this is one of the most common misinterpretations of catholic belief. we don't pray to anyone else except god, jesus and the holy spirit but what we often do is ask Mary or a saint to also pray for us and so to strengthen our prayers so that they have a better chance of being answered. it is commonly accepted that two or more people praying for a cause are better than one. the virgin mary is one of our advocates. They don't pray TO saints...they ask the saints to pray to God for them. It's like having other ppl pray for you as well.
I only pray to God the father, Jesus is our intercessor. I don't care what the catholics believe.
This is a strictly "Catholic" answer.
The Bible talks about worshipping idols and repetitive prayer-it even says HE hates them.
The Bible says that you don't have to pray to others in order to pray to GOD. )or go through others, such as saints and priests). Report Abuse
As Catholics, we ask Our Blessed Mother and all the angels and saints to pray for us to the Lord our God as intercessors because those in heaven see God face to face. Also true that Jesus Christ would not deny His blessed Mother her intercession for us children still here in this life for the salvation of our souls. We honor and revere all the saints who have gone before us and honor Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and heavenly mother of us all. I would suggest for anyone who has a problem with this issue to get yourself a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, just to see for yourself exactly what the Church does teach regarding Mary and the Saints. Like with anything else, if you want true answers, go to the source.
From what I get from a friend of mine who is married to a catholic. It's because they get limited bible reading. And they have thier own bible, so I would say that they are dillusioned.
I understand that you pray to the saints and Mary to intercede to Christ for you, but each of us is as important to Christ as any saint or Mary. He died on the cross, rose again, offers salvation to all, and will return again for those who believe in Him. Do not be afraid to go directly to Christ that is what He wants. He wants a personal relationship with each of us no matter what religious beliefs we have.
Incidentally, the word "pray" means "to humbly ask or beg". While you may feel that asking something of a saint is not particularly useful, I'm not sure why doing so would be considered a sin.
