| why do people think lyon is up there with the big teams? | | Published by: jack 2009-01-07 |
| in terms of a big club (history, support, financial power, attracting top players) why should lyon be up there with the following.
bayern munich
AC Milan
Inter
Liverpool
Man utd
Arsenal
Juventus
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Chelsea
all those teams
a. atract better players
b. have better history
c. ability to spend more on players and wages
d. more support
It's called moving for another challenge. Thus further highlighting how good Lyon actually are.first of all, it's his agent talking. i'm not saying it's baloney, but at least a grain of salt is needed.
diarra has always been very happy at OL, and is under contract until 2009, but his best friend here was essien (whom he tried to talk out of leaving at first), there are reasons to see the situation both ways.
it's no shock to imagine that we won't keep djila forever. but not that long ago nobody knew who diarra, essien or juninho were... except OL who found them and brought them to the level where the "big" clubs want to fight over them. so the more important question is "who will OL find to replace him?" that's the real strength of lyon.
history, support, financial power, attracting top players, standard of current players
on this criteria lyon wouldnt crack the top 10 europeon teams, lyon are a 2nd tier european team. you have to agree with that

Here we go again...
Make some sense out of it, COBRA.
Dont want to sound like I support Cobra, but news is that Diarra wants out. Another top player moving for greener pastures.
Djila's got 3 more years left in his current contract, so there's ABSOLUTELY no reason for us to sell him out in the market (unless we stand little chance of extending his contract).
He has established his reputation as one of the top defensive midfielders in Europe and his form is at its peak at the moment. Being forced to load him off means we're nothing but a 'selling club', just like COBRA has been insisting. Whatever it'll take, we've got to fight to keep our best players at all cost.
Personally I want some genuine respect from the players and this is the reason why Essien's departure was so heartbreaking for me. Not because we lost his service, but because he had shown no loyalty or respect towards this club what so ever.
All those clubs are:
A. Standing still
B. In transition
Lyon has proved themselves in France and have been equally impressive in Europe. They have shown that they are a big club by what they do on the pitch. i think we should have a subtitle for this thread: why does cobra have this constipated attitude about OL?
doesn't he have better things to do then slagging us off?
