| And why do they think we worship Mary and the saints?
Should people reconsider what they say before saying false things?
What I think these people are trying to say is that Jesus thaught us how to pray and worship idols,Mary, and the saints.Could that be it?
They just don't understand the way we worship so they decide to critize us to make themselves look and feel better to other people of their own faith.
The most important thing is that Catholics are Christians who have accepted Jesus as their Savior. God sees the sincere heart.
It's amazing that you asked a question, however everyone who answered by saying why they believe you guys indeed pray and worship idols... they received a thumbs down.....
That being said....
If you do not feel comfortable just having a one on one conversation with God without going through a priest, "saint", or Mary... then you need to go back and read the scriptures..... Christ died so that we could have bold access to the throne of God....
Like I always say... it take a lack of confidence in your own prayers in order to ask someone else to intercede to God for you....
That's like me being scared to ask my mom for something .... but since i "think" that she favors my sis/bro more than me... then I get them to ask her for me 'hoping' for a more favorable reply..... the fact is that there should be no favoritism because she is the mother to all of us..... Catholics take out one of the Ten Commandments!:: Catholics love images. Catholics bow down in front of statues and pray. see the reason the Catholic religion killed people with Bibles is cause their http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/tencomma.htmHOME |
I don't know, how about "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images" nor shall you bow down and worship them" .
We do not pray and worship idols. The saints are given to us as examples of how we should live our lives. And when we think about God and look at a picture or statue of a saint it reminds us to be faithful to God, because we all strive to get to heaven like the saints. When we loose our mother or father or any member of our family or our friends, don't we keep a picture of them to remind us of the love we had for one another. Or some personal item they may have given us. And remember and talk to them as in prayer. I have several times through my life. Can any of you admit to the same thing. Sometimes pleading for their help although they are not there anymore. I have. Or just looking at their image and hope to see their lovely face again. I have. That's not worshiping idols. Think about it.
i am not a protestant but i agree with them that roman catholics worship idols and other very silly things like bones, and of course "MONEY' Report Abuse
Catholics do not pray to or worship idols. To say otherwise is an expression of hatred for Christâ ™s Church and is the sin of bearing false witness against His Church and His faithful.
Non- Catholic Christians are compelled to do this rather than admit that their man-made churches have no veracity or authority and that they are not in Godâ ™s will in separating themselves from His Church. Since His Church is perfect, the only faults they can find are false creations from a contentious and evil source that continues to work to divide the Corpus Christi. Their pride fullness makes them a willing participant in this evil.
Let us look at the fruit of such claims to find their source. They directly attack the mother of God, is that pleasing to God? Certainly it is not! Then they turn to saying that to ask someone to pray for us is idolatry and worship. That is totally hateful and goes against Jesusâ ™ greatest commandment to love each other. What greater expression of love is there but praying for others and how humble is the expression of asking someone to pray for us. Again, it is pride fullness that keeps us from asking for prayers.
I am appalled that one would attack Catholics for contemplating on the passion of Christ through the use of the Rosary. It really shows that they do not understand the Rosary and attack the practice falsely. The information is online to find if only they were not purposefully ignorant of the practice and falsely use this attack to show themselves more faithful and more in Godâ ™s will when in fact it is an attack against their own faithfulness and proof of their disobedience to His will.
Let me tell you this. God may be a parental figure in a sense but He does expect us to be obedient and faithful to Him. He is not impressed when one bears false witness against the only Church He created nor is He impressed when one attacks His faithful, even if it is done out of ignorance. We owe God everything and we owe Him nothing. Most of all we owe Him devotion and worship. Those that attack His Church are failing on many points and are simply the tool of evil that divides His Church. Jesus prayed that we all be one in His Church, Let us pray and work towards that end which is clearly His will rather than divisions and false accusations against others.

Well, in the Hail Mary, which is a prayer, you ask Holy Mary to pray for you, so in a sense you are praying to her. Also she is not Holy. She was a vessel to Jesus, but that was it. Catholics also place much faith in Holy relics, encantations such as the Hail Mary, and rituals. Nowhere in the Bible, as far as I know, does God say, "The only way to pray to me is to recite a strict piece of literature from memory twenty times in a row". God wants us to be open with Him and treat Him much like a parental figure. We should never have to jump through hoops to try to impress God because trust me, He isn't impressed.
I think it goes something like this:
If someone who is not a Catholic has a statue in his garden, it's just a statue in his garden.
If a Catholic has a statue in his garden, it's an idol.
If someone who is not Catholic puts up a Nativity display (with figures of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus) on his mantle at Christmas time, it's just a nice meaningful decoration.
If a Catholic has a figure of Mary on his mantle year-round, it's idolatry.
If a non-Catholic purchases artwork depicting Jesus from the Family Christian Store and hangs it on his wall, it's inspirational.
If a Catholic hangs a picture of the Divine Mercy of Jesus or the Sacred Heart, it just won't do -- he's worshipping the picture.
What about the statuary in our churches? Well, if a Catholic is observed to be in prayer in the vicinity of a statue, it "looks like" he is worshipping that statue. Idolatry! Never mind that what is in that person's heart, and exactly what (and to Whom) he is praying, isn't something anyone can know but God.
And what happens when Catholics are asked, time and time again, why we "worship" statues, Mary, the saints, etc.? We reply that no, we do not. Which usually results in the response of "oh, yes, you do!". It's a particularly cherished piece of fiction about Catholicism that some people are loathe to give up, even when presented with the facts.
Basically, it's one part ignorance, one part presumption, a touch of hypocrisy, and a very generous spoonful of hatred toward the Church.
Catholics don't "worship" Mary and the saints. Mary and the saints are our friends-supporters. Kinda like when we tell a friend something that's going wrong in life and they say "I'll pray for you"....We pray for Mary to help pray for us.
Isn't it hypocritical that other Christians call Catholics idolatrous when they two use the cross to symbolize their Faith?
what are those statues that are everywhere in catholic churches ?MIRAGES
Men created the statues...not Christ.....he just thanked the people he had to....if you adore the statues then you are an idolatrous....that's the way it is....
Ever since Jesus took on flesh and became man, there has been no doubt about what God looks like, and who he is.
Knowing this, somebody would have to be a total idiot to attempt to worship anyone or anything other than God, alone.
Protestants find it necessary to criticize the one, true faith because they don't understand it, and because their own particular sects claim to understand only what's written in scripture ... but only according to the particular scripture interpretation of their favorite preacher.
All in all, that's pretty lame ... and if the devil has a rear end, it's a miracle that he hasn't laughed it off by now!
There are two basic problems that lead our Protestant friends to an unreasonable condemnation of Catholics.
The first is a failure to distinguish a work of art from an idol. An idol is a carved figure worshiped as a god, where worship requires sin. The Old Testament examples of idol worship included prostitution and child sacrifice.
A religious work of art is a painting or sculpture representing the artist's vision of a person or event in salvation history. For example, Catholic churches always have a sculpture of Jesus being crucified--a breathtaking reminder of how he made a path for us from death to life.
That modern-day Calvinists still want to destroy artwork out of their failure to make such an elementary distinction indicates their second source of error: sola scriptura. They try to reason their way to understanding from scriptures while purposely excluding the organization Jesus provided for scripture interpretation, the church.
If our Protestant friends took the scripture as seriously as they claim to, they would find that Jesus trained and appointed leaders for his only authorized church to "bind and loose" interpretations of his teaching.
The notion that images of events in salvation history are idols was loosed. Let it go.
Cheers,
Bruce
