I am just wondering what it hurts just to leave them there? Do they do it only for looks?
I don't know why people rake leaves I don't. Maybe they need something to do !!!!! Raking leaves, Oct 1953 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!:: My sister and me, raking leaves in the driveway. I rake them because they kill the grass and look untidy.
I haul them up to my garden and leave them there all winter to rot and turn them under in the spring when I am ready to plant my crops.
I noticed that someone already mentioned they can be very slippery when wet.
Have you ever sipped on these slimey things, they are lethal when wet, and they block your drains to. So rake them and bag them. Second, a layer of old, dead leaves is a breeding ground for insects and grubs. The leaves can also rot, causing mold problems that can kill the grass.
If you compost yard waste, dead leaves are an ideal additive. Or, you can use the leaves as a mulch for bedding pants. But, leaving dead leaves on a lawn will damage and likely kill the grass.
Because I want to see a snake before I step on them. When there is not huge piles of them we just mow them over to mulch them.
Usually my husband mows the leaves and leaves them for mulch. I raked yesterday and put a portion of the leaves on my flower beds as protection for the winter. I put the rest in my compost bin.
i think its primarily for safety.. i live in a leafy area on the top of a hill... when it rains i do fear that i might slip on a leaf and go rolling down the hill!!
I also think people rake them because they can look untidy.. especially after it rains and they start to decompose.... blech
Homeowners understand how important a well-groomed lawn is. Just as long grass signifies a neglected house, leaves everywhere is like the owner saying "Ya know, I really don't care about how others perceive me". These are usually same same people who you see in public and think "...That's how they decided to look? They woke up in the morning, looked in the mirror, and said 'This looks okay for me!'?"
