Why is it that when some people eat they will eat an entire plate of food but will leave one last bite on their plate. Or if they are eating... lets say a candy bar, they will eat the whole thing but throw the last bite away. Why not just finish it? If there was half a plate of food left and a person was full I could understand but if a person eats the entire meal anyways why not eat the one last piece of food on the plate? Is there some sort of psychological reason for this?
Well, here in england it WAS considered proper etiquette to leave the last bite of food on your plate, if only for the sake of the serving boy who would get table slops to eat for his supper. I think that must have survived into the aristocracy, which in turn survived into victorian times during the great cultural revolution, at which point it became tradition among "upper crust" families and therefore was emphasized by certain families in England.
And no, there isn't a psychological reason for something so PITIFULLY F@CKING POINTLESS.
Well I think in some cultures it is considered good manners to leave something on the plate, and in others it is a sign that they want more food. In our house we leave one bite of food for a treat for our dogs, and apparently when we eat out, we also leave a bite of food for our dogs, even though our dogs are not with us. Now I have no logical explanation for why someone wouldn't eat the hole candy bar, that is just insane. lol QUEEN - ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST LYRICS:: i mean , damn its just music, why do people post on forums for songs they hate shitty punk music and leave the REAL music to intelligent people with good taste http://www.leoslyrics.com/listlyrics.php?hid=DlCJitJGMY4=HOME | Why Do Dogs Bury Dones?:: But it one sin which in the end brought about his departure was his penchant for Well if you were to leave food out in the wild for any length of time you would http://www.seefido.com/html/why_do_dogs_bury_dones_.htmHOME |
This goes back to the famines in Europe, and other places. It used to customary to leave food for your server, instead of a tip. The thinking behind it being that it was a special thing to give them food for themselves, rather than have to share with the family.
to taunt the people who weren't eating it!!!
I think that the above person may be right, that it was some left over from a harsh period when elites had indentured servants and slaves and this is how they fed them!
However, the first thing I thought of was dieting? Do you think this is done by dieting folks who want to feel that they are doing good because they can say, "Hey look I'm eating less!"
I do this ALL the time!! But I just give the last bite to my bf to eat lol :)
I think that they say it takes 20 minutes to feel full so by the time you get to the last bite you are probably to full to eat it or just bored of the taste of it by then. But you have a very interesting topic - i'm curious to see what others think too!
I'm not one of those ppl. I eat everything on my plate :). But i always notice ppl will leave a bite of mashed potatoes or a small piece of steak or something. I think people think it's "rude" to eat everything on their plate. Also, if their with a friend they don't want to look like a pig or something. I dont know. Its an interesting question.
