In college I met a few Jamaican and African immigrants. A few were on my soccer team and we all got a long quite fine. In getting to know them better, many of them stated that they dislike American Blacks. They never really gave me a real reason behind it, like I said we all got a long just fine, but they also said in general they do not like us. I felt it was kind of odd, I learned so much from them, and OUR culture. They opened my eyes up to so much more then any text book can. I really love the true culture so much, it just disappoints me that some feel this way. I was just wondering is this the norm and why?

but i agree with you i mean ive never seen it but i think its because theres too much of a culture difference the colonials did a good job of separating our people we need to stick together and get along with our fellow brothers and sisters from Africa and the Carribean we all come from one place
American blacks are the envy of the world. Id take it as a complement.

My whole family are Jamaican born and we don't dislike African-Americans we get along with them!
I've seen these very ignorant people...like this Jamaican guy i've seen. There are some foreign blacks who separate land and water to distinguish themselves from American blacks. I agree its the media's perception of African Americans that they believe.
The reason they feel this way is because of the negative image the media portrays of African Americans. They think of African Americans as being violent and etc from what the media has painted. So they try and distinguish themselves so that maybe they won't be clumped together with African Americans. Or maybe they really are scared of the image painted of African Americans?
I feel the same way though, It made me kind of sad. Even though I am biracial...I was hoping for the whole unity thing.
