Atheists are in the R & S category for the same reason that Creationists and Intelligent Design proponents come into the science category. The answer, simply, is to offer a different perspective. Muslims are allowed to disagree with Christians on this forum, and on specifically Christian forums elsewhere, so we atheists just take it a step further and disagree with all theists. Theists should welcome our participation in this forum. After all, if they are true persons of faith, they should not fear or despise systems of belief that are in diametric opposition to their own. Living in a cloistered world is not beneficial , nor is it admirable.
How typical! A prideful and arrogant theist claims that people who don't agree with them lock and step don't belong and must not know what they're talking about.

Actually many atheists and agnostics are very knowledgable on the subject of religion. Just because we dont' believe in the claims doesn't mean we don't understand them. Most of us were religious at one time.

To answer your question, religion involves the worshipping of a god or gods and the idea of god falls into three categories:

I come for the Spirituality half. I'm not an atheist or religious. I find the polarity totally out of proportion compared with "real life" and I would suggest people stop petty squabbling and try to integrate all nuances to the imponderable questions if they want to allow greater spiritual growth.

Because they are allowed. It's an open forum, and guess what: whether you or "they" want to admit it or not, atheism is a religion.
Actually it's because they want to know if you've heard the good word about how there is no God. Many want to push their beliefs on you. Then later on they ridicule religious people who push their beliefs on them and don't give intelligent answers.
Of course, while they love to complain that Creationists don't give scientific evidence for their claims, they don't mind answering questions with "God is imaginary like the tooth fairy".
p.s. I know this isn't the truth for all atheists, I'm generalizing big time. But hey, you can't tell me you don't see this hypocrisy every day.

Check the definitions linked below. Technically, atheism is a spiritual belief and it could even loosely be considered a religion (count how many times the words "often" and "many" are used). I quote from Wikipedia: "A religion is a set of beliefs and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, and religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and mystic experience." Personal faith in a lack of the existence of deity is still personal faith. The atheists belong here too. As for their answering questions without knowledge, it isn't just atheists that do *that*, and it isn't all of them. One cannot generalize the caliber of answerers here.
