So here's the story: My boyfriend and I just bought a new kitten. It is currently living at his house because I already have an abundance of animals here. My boyfriend's room is in the basement of his house. He lives with his parents, and there is also another man who lives downstairs and has been doing so for a while. This man, who shall remain nameless, moved in with my boyfriend's uncle while his uncle was living there. They were both living in this basement as roomates, which was fine, because they paid. Well, the uncle moved out, and now it's just the roomate who is left. My boyfriend's parents only charge him 300$ a MONTH to live there. He is not part of this family, and all he does is sit there, smoke cigarettes, and play World of Warcraft.
Back to the point.. after we brought home the kitten, the roomate asked me VERY rudely if the cat was staying in the basement, to which I was replied yes. He then said, in his own words...
"Well, THAT'S going to be a problem. I am allergic to cats. Please get rid of the kitten."
I was shocked because I couldn't believe that some guy who doesn't even own this house is telling me and my boyfriend that we can't have a kitten, even when his parents are completely okay with it.
The roomate is now being an even worse asshole, he is not even being bothered by the allergies because he does not seem sick at all.
What should we do? I really want to know if he's being serious. He's basically living there for free, around here, you can't get an apartment for less than 800$ a month, and my boyfriend's house is super nice and everything. He's a dick.

Yess i agree that he is an ***. You should tell the owners to tell that guy straight forward that they do not ask for much money for rent from him. He should at least pay the respect back because he obviously has to follow the rules of the landlords =)
Why did you get an animal without being sure where it would live? You should not have assumed this guy would be ok with the cat.
If your boyfriend's parents are okay with the kitten, then that other guy just needs to shut up. Tell him to go whine to his WoW friends. lol.
