Perhaps, you are speaking from the point of view of the upcoming test match series between India and Australia. Based on test matches in the last one year, the bowling perofrmances are measured and given below on a 0-1,000 scale.

Bracken - 0 - has not played any test match. He is essentially a ODI bowler. In his entire career, he played only 5 test matches with a rating of 403. Ishant Sharma - 408.
Stuart Clark - 629 / Zaheer Khan - 416
Brett Lee - 1,000 / Irfan Pathan - 385.

India has severe weakness in pace bowling compared to the Aussies. Brett Lee (1000), Stuart Clark (629) and Mitchell Johnson (606) have an edge over Zaheer Khan (416), Ishant Sharma (408) and Irfan Pathan (385). India has thus 1,209 points over Australia's 2,235 points. This is a huge lead. Their spin bowling is expected to be better than Australia's. Harbhajan (662) and Kumble (646) will add to a total of 1,308 points. Australia may field the new bowler McGain (rating unknown but let us assume 500 which is average). The bowling of MJ Clarke (179) should be matched against the bowling of Sehwag (202). So, inspite of Symonds' absence (bowling rating of 230), Australia has edge in bowling. Will India compensate this edge through better batting ? Not likely, as they appear to have sacked Gangu bhai who is in terrific form but for the Lanka series. And having Dravid who is in terrible form will increase their woes.
