Northern Asia (Siberia)
Eastern Asia (China)
Southeastern Asia (Malaya)
South Asia (India)
Central Asia (Turkestan)
Western Asia (Arabia, Persia and Turkey)
By these regions I'm not saying India mean India, I'm saying it refers to Pakistan, Bangladesh India, Sri Lanka etc... And Malaya means Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillipines, Thailand , Burma etc... Southeast, but I'm biased because I've been surrounded by Filipinos all of my life and I've learned to love it :)
But you know what I think there are great things in all cultures. And if I wasn't so biased I wouldn't be able to pick just one Calvin College - Mosaic - Asia Club welcomes Calvin community:: now people can learn about all of the cultures of Asia and And the main purpose of the Asia Club is to educate interested non-Asians about the culture. http://www.calvin.edu/publications/mosaic/spring06/asiaclub.htmHOME |
Malayasia.
Objection.
India DOES NOT refer to India + Pakistan + Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
I cannot comment on Pakistan and Bangladesh as they are ethnically similar but India and Sri Lanka are vastly different from one another. They are two DIFFERENT ethnicities and cultures altogether.
Eastern Asia. I'm most familiar with it and I just love Chinese movies, Korean dramas, and Japanese music and manga. :) But I do like many aspects of so many different Asian cultures.
First is Eastern Asian cultural (China) and then Iranian culture Western Asia.
I went to China three times for business and had been to Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, India for training and travelling, Pakistan (born & brought up), Bangladesh (I'm from BD repatriated in 1973), and Iran (stayed there for 2-years, doing Air force technical jobs as civillian during King Reza Shah's time).
I liked the Chinese culture since they have respect for hierarchy and also very disciplined in line with Confucian philosophy, so do the Japanese, Koreans and the peripheral nations.
I liked the Iranian culture among the Western Asian nations. You have to live in Iran to experience the richness of their culture. I do have reservation for the ruling clerics who though have developed the country in terms of wealth, but ruined its peoples' dynamism. I may be wrong, but this is what I feel bad about Iranian regime who squandered their opportunity to have developed Iran in the model of Malaysia of today, of which most of the spade work was done by the eccentric but patriotic Dr. Mahathir.
As for South Asia, I like the Indian culture which is much rich and also open to improvement than the Pakistani and Bangladeshi cultures.
Hope this answers your question, at least partially.
Edit:
I admire Sri Lankan (SL) culture since historically their culture has some influence of Bengali culture as well as Indian culture (Tamil). The most striking thing of SL is that their average people are more literate than the others in South Asia.
Kashmir! ( just throwing out a random one I didn't see on your list) and I had a friend from there in Junior High who's family was totally awesome. Hmm...I think I like All of the cultures you listed, they all have some pretty cool clothes! (my passion in life) I order most of my clothes from India or Pakistan. Of course, there are aspects of every culture I don't like (including my own) but I think each of the ones you listed has something uniquely beautiful about it that should be appreciated by everybody!
salishlady, Kashmir would be South Asian.
I pick South Asian too.
To be honest I love Japan because of their fashion and entertainment and Tokyo is a amazing city bigger then Time Square.
