Why do Catholics pray to saints?
:= ) i am a catholic. saints are people (usually reglious priests, nuns or brothers) who are exemplery in their act of love towards god and neighbors that they are now in heaven.
we ask them to pray for us, it is as good i am asking u to pray for me. we don't pray to them, sometime Catholic may phrase as such and cause misunderstanding among our christian brethren, and thus causing a rift instead of bridging the 2 groups together.
hope this help.
Intercessory prayer. Someone praying on our behalf to help us. Church families do it all the time... pray for each other.
Pg. 4465. Catholics ask the saints to pray on their behalf. The saints don't answer prayers.
No where. Does it have to?
That is not in the Bible. Jesus said to ask the Father for anything in His name and it will be done. I have no idea why Catholics think that their prayers will be answered by praying to the saints and with their rosaries. My paternal grandma is Catholic and she does that. I don't ask because we all know that religion is a touchy subject. She got upset when I was younger because I told her that I was a Christian not Catholic.
The Catholic Church knows many things which have never been explicitly defined in scripture, which is perfectly OK with Jesus, since he remains the head of the Catholic Church.
One of the nice things about God is that he shares with his faithful children.
He's not selfish. He's not petty. There's plenty of grace to go around, and he doesn't have to do all the distribution work himself.
Jesus spent 33 years in the flesh, and saved mankind by destroying Satan's power, so Jesus was appointed the new head of all mankind by his Father, and given all power over heaven and earth.
The Blessed Virgin devoted her entire life to helping Jesus successfully complete his mission, so Jesus shares a bit of his glory with his mom, and gives her some authority and some grace to spread around, too.
When we die and get to heaven, Jesus promises to share with us too.
We're members of his family, and co-heirs to the kingdom of God. What else would we expect?
Anyone who overcomes the world through God's grace is in for a number of great rewards.
Rev 2:26 And he that shall overcome and keep my words unto the end, I will give him power over the nations.
Rev 3:5 He that shall overcome shall thus be clothed in white garments: and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life. And I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
Rev 3:12 He that shall overcome, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God: and he shall go out no more. And I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and my new name.
Rev 3:21 To him that shall overcome, I will give to sit with me in my throne: as I also have overcome and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Rev 21:7 He that shall overcome shall possess these things. And I will be his God: and he shall be my son.
Those who die in Christ are given a share in God's kingdom, and enjoy power, glory, and authority in Christ, as well.
Since the work of saving souls necessarily continues, the saints are duly authorized to assist those of us down here, who may need a little help from time to time.
This category of assistance is inseperably linked with the new commandment which Jesus gave us:
Love God. Love your neighbor.
Helping to save souls accomplishes all of the above, whether you're alive in heaven, or alive on earth.
Anyone who reads the Bible and fails to realize this has been deceived, and had better do some serious soul searching, before it's too late.
no place in the bible. God wants us to pray only to God. when we pray to pray threw Jesus Christ to get to the Father
it doesnt and they shouldn't
it doesn't.
I think you've been misinformed. St Paul said something like, "Pray for the saints ... " meaning living Christians who were undergoing persecution, but I can't imagine him telling people to pray to dead Saints. Why would he? Jesus was his whole life.
Nowhere. Our prayers are directed to God through his son Jesus.
In 1John 5:16 we see that we can pray for each other for God to forgive sins (if the sins are not deadly, ie mortal). All through out the NT, such as 1 Thess 5:25, we see that we can ask others to pray for us as well.
So, if we were to ask someone to pray for us, who would we ask (anyone we can find, right)? And certainly, those that have been found spotless in God's eyes such as those that have been accepted into the Kingdom already. Remember that those in Heaven are not dead, but more alive in Christ than we are! So, if we can ask our brother's and sisters to pray for us, why not as the most holy of them (our brothers and sisters in heaven; the saints)?
You can read more about this in the Catechism or listen to a talk about it (free MP3 download) at:

God Bless,

it doesn't say to pray to the saints anywhere. on the contrary it says in ecclesiastes 9 the dead know not anything. and the memory of the dead is gone.
Actually, there is doctrine of the Nicolaitanes in Revelation
that Jesus hated. It mentions idolatry and sex, so what could
it be?
One man said it might be saint worship!!!!!
It doesn't. I've never seen it.
IT DON'T
It doesn't it says pray FOR all the saints. Ephesians 6:18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
It's funny how people talk to deceased loved ones all the time, such as beloved parent, just as a way of coping, but let a Catholic ask Jesus mother or a saint to pray "with" us, and we're deemed sacrilegious. Talk about hypocrisy....
The bible does not say that u should pray to the saints... think about it why would you pray to a person, they have the same power as you the same everything... it makes no sense
In the bible it says that God is a Jelous God and that u are to put no other god before him,, but if you pray to saints then u are putting other gods before him and that is a sin
i am not catholic but i kno that they pray to marry because they think that since she is the "mother" of jesus she has a power over him which is not tru. Mary was a vessile used by God and nothing more
hope this helps a bit
There is no where in the bible that teaches us to pray to saints. That is a doctrine that the catholic church created themselves, along with baptizing babies, worshiping statues, confessing sins to mortal man,"priest", and not following the word of God in the KJV bible. The do not teach salvation through accepting Jesus as your savior, and repenting of your sins. It's a shame.
They have their own bible that leaves out God's word and replaces it with their own doctrine, which is dirrectly in violation of these scriptures...
Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I am a Christian and no longer a catholic. Thank you Jesus!
I've always wondered the same thing. Who gave those humans the power to answer peoples prayers, especially after they were dead? Sounds like polytheism to me.
Can St Anthony (or whoever) really help you sell your house?
HAHAHA
the bible has never said to pray to saints the problem is the catholic church has integrated peganistic beliefs into christianity in order to try and make everyone happy under their religion the word catholisism itself means universal. catholics have always tried to interprit the bible to everyone leaving no room for them to interprit it for themselves. as a matter of fact no where in the bible does it say that once we die we go straight to heaven or hell, instead it describes in the gospel death as a sleep untill the second coming. if you think of it in terms of the resurection of lazerus. he was brought back from the grave being beloved of christ wouldnt he have gone to heaven? and if so when christ brought him back might he have been a bit upset at the fact that he was pulled from heaven back to a sinfull earth??
Right here, this is shows the saints offering their prayers for us to God: Revelation 8:3-4
there was a parable about the rich guy and a beggar who in this life had one role, and when they died they shared another role....
the rich man was now in hell and the poor man was in paradise...the rich man prayed to the 'saint' for a drop of water
but both according to the story were not in this life
it's all a story but I think also Elisha prayed to Elijah, and Saul -the king- devined using a witch - a prophet and it wasn't looked favorably upon
all a story and a myth meant to teach a lesson
I can't think of anywhere in bible (what is not thrown out and edited) where we pray to saints or if saints exist at all, all made up as we go along to keep
Power, Control, and (the) Authority
to do so
The Catholic church is a non-Christian cult, and they constantly change God's Word to suit their own evil purposes.
They claim Mary was sinless, but God's Word says ALL have sinned.
No where does the bible say pray to saints. The Catholics do a lot of things not in the Bible, then again the Vatican houses so many secrets, who knows. The bible also does not say pray to Mary.
The Bible doesn't say stop at red lights either, but we do it.
Why should this bother you? Saints are a part of the Catholic culture. These individuals represent good role models in the lives of practicing Catholics. Praying to saints makes a big difference in the lives of many Catholics and adds to their prayer life.
Offer it up for the missions. Or, better yet, pray to St. Jude, Patron Saint of Impossible Cases.
