The Elite is only good if he plans on making use of the massive 120gb hard drive, which if he downloads demos films and puts music on there then he probably will, its also black, which always looks good (y)
The Premium is the most common choice as its a bit cheaper and the hard drive ain't to shabby at 20gb, but generally its the same as the elite, just white instead
The arcade is the cheap option, as it only has a memory unit, and no hard drive, which some games wont be compatible with, so its not the best option unless he only wants to play cheap Xbox Live Arcade games

Personally id go for the Premium, its the one i bought (when they only had 12gb hard drives) and its great, even when it red ringed i got a new motherboard from microsoft and all has bn peachy, it even survived a lot of smoke damage =D, but if you really want to treat him get the elite

I have yet to meet someone who doesn't at least like Call of Duty 4 a little bit, so either that or the new Call of Duty : World at War would be a good choice. If u look through the games he already has just try and pick a sequel or similar game from the same genre.
