BBTFs Newsblog Discussion :: Red Sox re-sign Mike Timlin for $2.8 million:: When you have Taverezes and Seanezes and such, they hang around and hang around looking to acquire a good starter, and the prices are gonna go through the roof. http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/newsstand/discussion/reike_timlin_for_28_millionHOME | C'mon...the guy has had a nice career...let him retire with some dignity. He used to be one of the Sox' most dependable relievers. Now he's far from it. It's not like it's gonna go anywhere but downhill from here...
When is he gonna retire? Any predictions?
Nobody likes to leave the game, they either get injured or get thrown off the team to make room for a youngster, he will retire when his arm falls off.
Yea I was thinking the same thing when I was watching him blow the game for us. Don't get me wrong, Mike Timlin is awesome but he just can't play baseball anymore. I do agree that this isn't exactly new territory for Timlin this season. It has not been going great for him. Mike Timlin: Instant karmas gonna get you at The Feeding the Monster :: Im assuming that Timlin doesnt spend a lot of time hanging out with Jason Lee. 2 Responses to Mike Timlin: Instant karmas gonna get you http://www.sethmnookin.com/blog/2006/08/21/mike-timlin-instant-karmas-gonna-get-youHOME |
This is what I don't get. He did have a great career, and does he really want to end with a crappy one? Francona really should have known better then to put Timlin in so late in the game. Didn't he learn from September when Timlin threw away an extra innings game to the Rays in the 14th? He's like Embree used to be, a losing sentance. Beckett definately had a hand at throwing that game away, as soon as I learned he was pitching I knew they were done for HOWEVER, the Sox gave Timlin a clean slate, all he had to do was strike 3 guys out so the Sox could score.
After this year is over.
I knew it was a Rays win when I saw him warming up. I can't believe Francona put him in. I know it's wrong to second guess, but their shouldn't have even been a first guess on him.
dont blame it on the guy who lost it in the 11th, blame it on beckett (and i know you red sox would never do something like that)
Don't listen to tom cruise; you are real pretty!
anyways back to question: Timlin is 42 there is always a demand for experienced good relief pitching in mlb, i think he has 1 or 2 more yrs left. but he will retire on his own terms.
I thought he was done in 2000 when he pitched (if you want to call it that) for the O's. He did turn it around though with the Sox. I was surprised. I give him one more season then he's done.
i have to agree with the baron guy. not to say timlin is blameless, not at all. but the rest of the sox got themselves in that position: becket blew leads, we missed chances to blow the game open/go ahead (top 11 and such). i do agree that he is far from his prime now, but it isn't fair to place all the blame on the guy who most clearly "lost" the game if it wasn't entirely his fault.
"another thing that will bother you about the red sox game tonight is they left 13 men on base" - weei guy just now
thats very true..the velocity on his pitches are down and he's just getting too old for the game, considering all the new young talented players out there in the league..
my prediction is that he will retire at the end of this season and in the near-future, be on the coaching staff of the boston red sox..
haha
Hopefully not until the end of the post season. He's our favorite Red Sox.
Just got back from the game. WHAT A GAME. One of the best ever. Too bad somebody had to lose. Thankfully it was the Sox. No offense.
I read that he's possibly retiring at the end of this season from a few sites, including The Boston Herald's website and redsoxnation.net. But who knows? He may decide to give it...one more year.
he went in.. and im like oh s h i t !!!!!
That's what I thought when it was announced that he was going to be on the roster for the ALCS. As soon as he let one guy get on base tonight, I knew it was over. He just doesn't have it anymore. Hopefully the Red Sox will win the World Series again, with probably not much help from Timlin - and he can be on another WS Championship team and he can retire after this year. I think the only reason that Francona put Timlin in was because he was running out of options. Francona is a good manager, I think he just had to believe that Timlin could do it. There were a couple of pitches that he threw that should have been called strikes, but that doesn't change his performance. I hope that he doesn't have to go out there and embarrass himself again.
Well the red sox are stupid for putting him on this roster when he didnt even pitch once last series. And then they decide to put him in the game in a critical situation. All fault is on red sox management
In all fairness to Timlin, it should have been 1 out first and second because that roller to third that advanced the runners came on strike 4. Nevertheless, Timlin, like me, should only be pitching when the Sox lead or trail by 4 or more runs. And then only when no one is on base. Timlin has had a great career. He was a great reliever for the Jays starting in 1991, but it's 2008 and it's time for new blood.
