Whats a better choice, Line 6 amps or Crate amps?

I'm looking to buy a half stack. I narrowed it to these options because they are good/affordable.

Depends what type of music you are wishing to play on them. But personally i would go for a line 6 if you were going to get one. They are great for hard rock/metal and also for just clean riffs. My mate has one at the moment and it's actually so diverse with what you can play on it. And they also have a lot of pre made effects to use that other bands create and also use, which is a lot easier then manually changing the settings everytime you want to change your sound.

However, Line 6 has managed to package a great computer in a piece of driftwood I dont know a whole lot about Martins or Gibsons and cannot tell the difference

You are wrong. They are NOT good. Don't get a half stack. I know it's tempting but buying a cheap half stack is a really bad idea. Get a good marshall combo amp. It will work fine for practicing, recording, and gigs.

However if you do decide to get a crate or line 6, get the line 6 amp. It will have much more built in effects and will be a good starter half stack.
