I'm a black brit girl and I was just wondering....?
I've heard lots of stories from friends of mine, about what you guys think of us - e.g. we are stuck-up, some were told european blacks are liked more than american ones and stuff like that.
Any points on how I would be treated as a black brit girl in the USA?
The American Boy chick sounds good to me. In america all white people will see is a ***** and when you talk you will be a ***** with funny voice.
I've heard it before, like Naomi Campbell it's not a big deal. For some people it might be exotic or something but not for me.

Well to me it would be cool its like am black and would have a accent to you because am American born. My neighbor is a Brit and black and she sounds so classy I love it!
Edit: Ignore the guy Britney who fakes as a women on here....he hates all blacks, Hispanics and asians. Many blacks here do not talk ebo whatever Britney calls it...or by his real name Patrick. But I would welcome you with open arms. I love the British accent!

Im caribbean and half of my family lives in england, so the idea of a black person with a british accent doesnt always suprise me. Most of my family either has Caribbean or that Cockney-Jamaican Hybrid dialect....im the only different one (im from new york and my accent is a caribbean-new york hybrid lol)

But then again it depends on the accent.
For example, an East London or North London accent on a Black person isnt so surprising to me at all. In fact they sound very caribbean and almost normal to me. I listen to alot of UK Hip Hop and Grime, and alot of the slang comes from Caribbean Patois so its not really all that different to me atall, its like being at a relatives house.
But other accents on black people dont sound right...like Scouse. i dont know why, since they have the oldest black population in England, but the accent on black people just doesnt fit.
In the end though, i care alot more about what you say than how you say it. Accents are pretty irrelevant to me.

I would not think anything about it. I am only one American, but it would not bother me at all. What does bother me is why people can't accept each other as we are. Differences can be good. We can learn from each other. However, I am not black so I can only speak for myself as an American.
To be honest with you,there is a British black student in my school too some people,and even black people too may think you're accent is funny that is weird to them thinking if you're from Africa, Jamaican, or sound like an intelligent black person that knows everything.Hey some might think you're unique,because as time went on people in my class didn't much care of how he talked and see him as everyone else.In my opinion I think that it's funny but not in a mean cruel way,I actually like the way it is spoken,it's beautifully exotic,especially love as the English is spoken flowing very classy like besides that average American/broken English and have some family in the West Indians that talk exactly like that because their country is ruled or something by the British called Montserrat,it would be so cool if I talked like that.:-) Yes, you're right about how Americans think y'all are stuck up,stereotypically how the people always drink tea,always talk smart,that most black people from Britain look like Africans or ugly looking,and some other stuff they think differently.But that negativity shouldn't stop you from coming to America and feel the experience.Most individuals in America think others are totally differently awkward to them when it comes to a complete different country/continent and judge saying that America is better from anything. I think you're the same as everyone else even though people from different countries have similar accents,style,culture,etc.
Well, i'm not a big fan of British accents. They are my least favorite, and i find Black guys and mixed black guys attractive, but if they are British...then their accents instantly turn me off, but i'm not saying i wouldn't date them for that reason. I just prefer American boys and American accents. I guess since i'm American, i'm used to American accents and i only date ppl with them, too. The British accent always sounded "stuck up" to me b/c of the whole proper way of speaking. I like some British accents, i'm guessin the ones from the London ghettos. Nothing against the British, though. Black ppl with British accents, hmm..it's different, i'm not used to it of course. There's a huge difference between the Black Americans and the Black British.

In my community it would be a refreshing experience. I am really turned off by most of the black jargon these days. It is unbelievably crude to say the least. Such words as Axe for Ask and phrases such as Yo Mamma. The list is endless.
Sorry Lyla, but what you call 'slang' is their everyday use of the English language. I for one, am sick of listening to their crappy misuse of our language.

What makes you think "European blacks" are liked more? You arent European. You are nothing but African and Carribiean immigrants in the UK..In the U.S. you will just be seen as black, your accent will get you some ooh's and ahhs for a little bit but dont come here thinking your on some type of pedistal or you'll get knocked down quick from both black and white Americans. You need to have substance behind that accent and something to offer.
i think there is some tension between african americans and blacks from different countries. a lot of people think the british accent is sophisticated so that is why they might think you are stuck up. anyways i don't think you would have any problems in america though.

Most people in the US die for British accents. You could very easily get a job in any sort of public sector where yuo deal with people...
EDIT: the reason it'd help you is because since people in the US equate English accents with class, sophistication, education, and wealth, businesses would be apt to hire you because it presents an image of sophistication, education, and wealth to the company.
I worked at a hotel and there was an English guy who sucked at his job, but before they fired him, they had him record all the voicemails for the hotel... haha. I worked for a highline car dealership (Ferrari, Bentley, Porsche, Lambo, Lotus, etc) and one of the receptionists they had was English, the other was South African, but it's not like anyone here knows the difference.

My family in London have British accents, its nothing special anymore. Gets annoying after a while actually...
Edit: I can't pinpoint why exactly. The first 10 minutes I talk to people with British accents, its fine then after a while, Im just thinking to myself "shut up already with that darn accent"
