Eep... well then you might be having abit of a problem, many hosts will give you a very hard time about mvoing your domain away from them, its how they keep you there alot of the time :(
What the hell are they playing at all.
The site was only an Aquarium Site for fish. Not only have they suspended my account, they have removed all access now to both FTP and my CP.
How the heck do they expect me to download my site from them via FTP to take elsewhere if they don't at least give me FTP access.
To be honest apache doesn't look overworked at all....
It looks like you had a burst in trafic from a spider.. but honestly there are not that many requests there... want to see what the apache status looks like off one of the sites I run that goes though 200gb of bw a month :p
I did have a bust from spiders at the time, I posted an image that I attacked to the first thread. About 20 spiders invaded my site at the time it all happened using an IP range of: 213.42.2. Thats when I started to get the MySQL errors just before I spoke to them and they took the site offline saying they had disabled a script that was causing server overload
Thats when all the problems happened
here is the image: http://www.garybolton.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/temp/Snap1.jpg
Not necessarily Gary. Do you still have access to your control panel (cPanel), if so, and if you move to ASO, the staff there will transfer everything across for you... and I mean everything.
You need to see if you still have access to your control panel and take it from there. Don't despair, we'll get you across to a new host...
I've jujst sent them an email asking why they have done this. I have done nothing wrong here apart from run a payed for script that they say is to heavy on there server. Which by the way as been there running for 2 weeks.
Host is: http://www.eukhost.com/
I was with EUKHost but I quickly moved and I would never use them again!
It sounds that way Zack, it sounds as though they were already pretty overloaded anyway. And when the spiders hit my site it just tipped there server loads over the edge. Making them think my site was the main cause!
I'm no expert, but I have to agree if the host can't cope with 20 spiders running rampant on my site to warrent banning it. I need a new host.
I supose I could use a file to stop spiders indexing the site and restrict access there to save them high server loads. But then how would I get the site indexed and listed.
I've asked for a refund!
My host as just contacted my after I sent them an email Zack telling them whats been said here regarding possible reasons for the problem.
Well they have un-banned my site and are monitoring it for the next 24 hours, before they decide if they ban it for good.
Rather than me rush a site transfare, I would like to resolve this if possible seeing as I've payed for the whole year upfront and my 30 days refund as run out. By using a robot.txt script to limit access to bots on the site. The problem is I use Google Adsence on my site so I don't want to stop them coming there.
I need some advice on a robot.txt script asap and what it should contain to try and stop them from invading my site as a last resort of the next 24 hours while the site is monitored.
They really should pro-ratedly refund you.. part or whole of your purchase... :/
A robots.txt won't be taken into consideration for another 30 days :( chances are they've cahced the fact you don't have one.. but do you really want to keep yourself out of google and yahoo etc?
Depending on the time, you could issue a charge back, but please only use this as a very last option, charge backs are evil in a way, but if you are unsatasified and they won't issue some sort of refund...
If I move my domain to another server, do I need to do something on this server first? To be able to use it with another host. I'm 99% thinking of going with that smallorange now
Who's your web host Gary... you need to call them... asap...
Maybe someone else here has experience with them. In any case, for the benefit of everyone else on here who might be lopoking for a webhost you should expose who they are if they are treating you like this.
Gary,
Sadly things like this happen, alot of hosts out there are not that great :( and it seems you are finding out the hardway :(
WIth hosting you should never invest in a long period of time, whos to say that hosting company may be there in the years to come. Move somewhere else, if they did this to you already chances are their servers are heavily overloaded with customers as it is. Move some where, ASO is one good host but there are many others
Please note I've never personally used ASO and I am not endorsing them, their customer feedback here has been very good. Pregnancy Forum - What the Heck Is Going On?:: What the Heck Is Going On?. Well I'm now in the middle of asking for a refund that I only payed last month to them for the year. Man I am so mad. I spent 4 weeks building the site up using vBGallery and vB Links that I payed for as well.
They did not even contact me first, they just messed my site up by disabling a script they said caused to much server load for there liking
Boy, I'm really mad. All that work over 4 weeks for nothing.
They have even removed my FTP access now to download the site from there servers.
Nope, I surely wouldn't have kicked you off my server :)
This is from one of the servers I sysadmin, which currently hosts one of the boards found on big-boards.com

To me it looks like they either have an underpowered server or an overloaded server.
20 users online shouldn't spike their server loads, unless they have some horridly underpowered server, or overly loaded server.
I got my domain from the current host the site is intalled on now. I have the servernames in an email they sent when I first registered.
Who or where did you get your domain from?
All you should need to do is update the name servers.
Man my server disabled some scripts on my site that they said was causing to heavy a server load and have now suspended my site.
Well right, 20 users online is not much, esp guests, they only use a fraction of the resources that a normal user does.
I have recieved an email now from my host. They have sent me information in the email as to why they have temporary disabled the site..
I need a person here to take a look at the code in the email sent giving the errors they say caused them to ban the account, who knows exaclty what this means and tell me if there are in fact some serious issues that warrented them to close the account for the time being. Because it no use me looking for a new host if it turns out there are problems there that any host would do the same thing.
Because I understand nothing of what that means below.

I've jujst sent them an email asking why they have done this. I have done nothing wrong here apart from run a payed for script that they say is to heavy on there server. Which by the way as been there running for 2 weeks.
Host is: http://www.eukhost.com/
OK thanks zack, I can see whats happened here now. The site was working fine just before I was invaded by the spiders. As soon as the spiders came. About 10 minutes later I started to get the MySQL errors. So I used my ISP live chat to ask them if they had server issues. I was told they had disabled a script on my site because it was causing high server loads.
So it seems as soon as the spiders hit my site there server could'nt cope with it and went to a high server load. Which is the reason why they disabled a script that then started to give me MySQL errors becuase my board needed that script.
Thanks I can now answer my host back with a proper answer now to see what they say back to this.
To be honest apache doesn't look overworked at all....
It looks like you had a burst in trafic from a spider.. but honestly there are not that many requests there... want to see what the apache status looks like off one of the sites I run that goes though 200gb of bw a month :p
Change host Gary... asmallorange...
So you saying Zack there is nothing there that you would say warrents what they have done, and nothing there that indicates sites errors on scipts that cause there server serious issues and problems with the site.
If not I will look for a new host.
Here is what I was running:
vBulletin 3.0.8
vBGallery
vBLinks
vBCMPS
and about 4 other small scripts that were installed ages ago and worked fine.
Phew, I forgot I "DID" download the site late last night. Totally forgot all about it in all the confusion.
I have a full site board back-up (forum folder with all my site files in it), I had nothing running from the ROOT except a re-direct html file leading to the portal file located in the forums folder.
I also have a un-compressed vbulletin.sql database back on my hardrive here also that I downloaded last night that 7mb large.
Yea, looking for a new host now. Let hope they give me a refund. I only payed them last month for the year service you pay for up front. They have not even replied to my emails yet. :(
As others have mentioned, ASO has good ratings. If that won't work for you, ask for reccomendations here before picking one.
Also, try not to shop exclusively on price. Support is very important, and as your forum grows you'll want a host that can supply lots of bandwidth. I've had better luck with ones that are more geared towards commercial sites, rather than specializing in cheap sites for individual users.
