Got my SONY DSLR camera what next? - Page 2 - Digital Camera :: 9 posts - Last post: Dec 10, 2008As I don't pay a lot of attention to sony lenses and am not up on UWA's SONY DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6; Minolta AF DT 11-18 f/4.5-5.6; SIGMA http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?p=345251HOME | So I was wondering if anyone here could help me out pick up a lens between the sigma 10-20mm and the sony 11-18mm. I want a wide angle lens that is sharp. I don't care if it's heavy or compact. As long as I get a good result. :) Luminous Landscape Forum > First lenses for 5D?:: a) The wide coverage you get with your proposed 17-40 is also available in DX format, with lenses like the Nikon 12-24, Tamron 11-18 or Sigma 10-20. http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t9912.htmlHOME |

EDIT: I have a sony a100
anyone?
I had the sigma, pretty good lens. Buy on line from www.bhphotovideo.com and have it shipped to you. Even with the exchange rate it will still work out cheaper! Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: lenses for Alpha 700:: which other lenses (except Zeiss 16-80 mm) have you been using to get the most of . So you think that the Sony 11-18 is much better than the sigma 10-20, http://www.amazon.com/lenses-for-Alpha-700/forum/FxCTZPH46EE918/Tx130QO7DDHE1K5/1?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B000VPNYSOHOME | wow thx guys.... you guys rock :)
Sorry if im jacking the thread but will that sigma work on full frame cameras?

is that website trustable?
B&H is one of the ONLY sites i trust. That along with Ritz, Adorama, KEH and Amazon.
I have another question actually
what is HSM???
I see
Sigma 10-20mm 10-20 F4-5.6 f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for SONY
and
Sigma 10-20mm 10-20 f/4-5.6 f4-5.6 EX DC for Sony
I just got the Sigma and LOVE it! I did a lot of research on it before hand and it got excellent reviews. I know nothing about the sony though.
HSM means hyper sonic motor. Super fast. :D
I'd go for the sigma, I owned the Tamron/Sony 11-18 for about 3 days.
Used it on my D70 and it was probably one of the worst photographic purchases i've ever made. It was just soft, and the images out of it were ugly. Absolutely no detail in the corners, and the CA's and Distortions only made things worse.
If it was sharp, i might have kept it, but the Sigma is cheaper and 100% better. Also look into the Sigma 12-24. I bought speedlights instead, and since I can use them off camera wirelessly, it fast became a no-brainer what was more useful.
Not sure about the sony but the sigma is a good lens.
wal-mart of photography. LOL I don't know if that is a good thing or not, because I refuse to buy anything at wal-mart. They represent everything I hate in a corporation.
On a side note I have bought the sigma 10-20mm and I don't regret it. Thx Sw1tchFX for your input. I was disappointed with my a tamron I have bought before so I don't think I will ever buy their product again.
I got it for 650$ CDN including tax and a UV filter. I could have gotten a best price on the Internet but The 50$ extra is worth it.
seems like everywhere I go sigma gets good feedback.
It's super cheap on amazon right now, but only in the states :(
CameraLabs has a review on the 11-18.
Sadly, it's not a full frame lens but I hope the new full frame can overcome that.
+1 for the sigma!
The Sigma is a GREAT lens...one of my favorite purchases.
B&H is one of the best websites around. There's a link at the top of the page for it. And HSM stands for hyper sonic motor. Which makes auto focusing faster. Definitely go with that model if you can.
I trust B&H too, a lot of pros in new york get their gear from them. Visiting the store is like going to the wal-mart of photography! The place is huge, and they are known for using a maze of conveyor belts right above your head to move your purchases from the departments you bought them to the front door (security reasons as well as fun to watch).
