| What is wrong with my poor little lemon tree? | | Published by: cfz 2009-01-07 |
Hello, i recently bought a dwarf pink lemonade lemon tree from a private party (not a nursery) and it is dropping fruit like crazy. I'll give a little more background:
I live in the San Diego area, more specifically inland on a mesa, so weather probably isn't a factor
I do live in the quarantined area for that citrus virus, although the tree doesn't look like it has a virus at all
I haven't fertilized it because i read that you're not supposed to fertilize after August and i bought it early November
I've been watering it 2-3 times a week, not a whole lot, just to get the soil wet
It had about 15 tiny little fruits on it and now has about half that much Anaheim Hotel Review: Anaheim Lemon Tree Hotel Reviews by Guest :: My family of four was delighted with our stay at the Lemon Tree Hotel. Although it's obviously an older building (not that I see anything wrong with that) http://anaheimhotels.tv/anaheim-hotel-review.htmHOME |
It has a spider that has taken residence under the pot (not a spider mite, but a big spider that has been catching bugs and stuff.) I've left it alone because i figured it would eat all the bugs that would end up hurting my plant. from the planet of janet: Weekly Winners: March 16-22:: Mar 25, 2008 But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat: . I love the little lemon bud :) I miss my old lemon tree. http://www.fromtheplanetofjanet.com/2008/03/weekly-winners-march-16-22.htmlHOME |
I've been giving it as much love as possible because man, i love lemons, but the tree just doesn't like me. Help!
Trees don't like being moved. Give it time to acclimate in its new location, and I bet new fruit will come in. I'm assuming this tree is outside, lemon tree flowers need to be pollinated or the little fruits drop off, anyway. Pollination happens outside by insects, inside I always used an artists paintbrush to gently brush from flower to flower.
Citrus fruit likes to be soaked. You should only need to water it every 10 days or so, soaking the soil each time. With the tree in a pot, let the water run out of the bottom. If you weather in exceptionally warm, you will probably need to water it a little more. You might also check the stems to the leaves, there is a "critter' called scale that likes to invade citrus and other trees. They look like little green bumps, and can be controlled by spraying. If you have had winds lately, they fruit may have dropped off, as well.
