Nikon D90 or D300.
Save up the little extra and get a much better, finer built machine.
i would have to agree with k64, but wanted to point out that the D300 while a great camera is a lot more advanced than you may want. It lacks some of the presets that you will want since you are new to SLR cameras. I love both but have to admit I use my D90 a lot more than the D300. honestly go to your nearest camera shop and start handling them. The one that fits your hand and feels more stable to you is the right one. Both cameras share a lot of the same properties but come on different platforms. The D300 is semi weather proofed( can"t just drop it in a bucket of water) but the D90 is not water proof at all !!! also make sure that the controls are right for you ( one major difference in Canon vs Nikon). i wouldn't buy a D60 just because in a cpl of years you will out grow it. the same thing with the canon rebels.
The Canon Rebel XSi or maybe the Nikon D90
i think it would be samsung 380 or sony ericson
If you have the money, a more advanced camera like the D300 would be great, but you specifically stated you want to keep it inexpensive. If you want to go with Nikon, then go for the D60 or even the D80 if you can go a bit higher. You can invest in Nikon lenses and other accessories as you go. When you outgrow the d60, then you can step up to the D300, and you will already have an assortment of accessories for it.
