What is it with IE7, Ext and Doctypes

Published by: mike 2009-01-07

  • Re: Various DOM-related wrappers (Code Worth Recommending Project)::
    Where I learned this is from the EXT css selector which is the fastest. of the popular ones. IE5 thinks comments and docTypes are elements.

    I had an issue today where submitting form data was making the actual form disappear, the form was inside a tab. This only happened in ie7...

    When I removed teh doctype everything worked fine. ok so don't use a doctype? well this meesed up my centering cause I use margin:auto to center containers, so I had to be hacky and put text align center in my body css.
    StephenChans Tech Space: Web Design::
    这种设置单行居中的方式在firefox3和ie7都是可以行的,但是超出的部分会自动地将容器撑大到能容纳字的大小,用white-space也无法进行换行。 Attributes not allowed in Strict DOCTYPEs yui-ext (JS UI component)

    I have always thought that using doctypes was the suggested (standard) way of doing things, but I have found with this problem, and others in the past that ie7 will not place nice with declared doctypes.

  • Jack on numerous occations has mentioned that he prefers no doctype/quirks-mode since the browsers rarely change that across new versions. Since no browser is truely standards compliant, they all change with each version getting better and closer... and different.

    However, I'm with you... we have to use a doctype. Like many many others out there...

    That said, I've never seen what you are talking about! Sorry!
