In the last six months or so, I've developed red patches of skin on the skin of my upper eyes (a bit under the eyebrow area) and the skin just under my eyes. I wash my makeup off every night and apply moisturizer and, lately, vaseline to the area, but it won't clear up. Does anyone know what might be causing it?

In case they're related, I've also developed a similar patch of skin on my left wrist which flairs up then nearly clears up before flaring up again.
My son has this, and his dermatologist diagnosed him with psoriasis. It's very bothersome for him, and as his mom I can also feel your pain.
There is a possibility that you are simply allergic to something in your eye make-up or skin-care products, but since you also have this on your wrist, I'm leaning towards psoriasis.

Hon, please see a dermatologist. My son uses prescription creams to relieve his discomfort, but it was a long process of trying various products before we found one that worked and was safe for use in the eye area.

I know this is hard for you. Best of luck with this.
Allergy to skin products, mascara perhaps, allergy to something you have on your hands (and you may touch your eyes with it), different diseases may cause this symptoms (Reiter Syndrome for instance).
You must get professional help. See your family doctor, does not sound like anything serious but none of us on this forum are doctors.
