A mezzo is a person that can't go as high as a soprano, but can't go as low as an alto either. It's an inbetween voice.

i dont necessarily agree with the answer above me...
a lot of times... a mezzo has the same range as a lyric soprano or an alto...
however, their voice usually has a lower "quality" of tone than a soprano. Meaning that it is richer and darker and they sound their best in a mid range. It is a different type of quality.
