I am just curious. When labor doesnt happen by a certain time. What do doctors do to induce the labor? And is it a long process?
a thing that looks like a tampon is inserted called cervacil i think.. then u get contractions.. and then u get an IV to speed up the process!!!! its kinda painful but that's why I got an epidural Castor Oil for Starting Labor - from Ronnie Falcãos Midwife :: This is 2 or 4 times the general recommended dose. Some moms have One thing you have to keep in mind when using castor oil is that your cervix has http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/castorOil.htmlHOME |
I had to be induced because my water broke but I wasn't having any contractions what so ever. They gave me pitocin (sp?) through an IV. They also inserted some kind of tablet down there to make me dialate. It took a long time because my body just wasnt ready to give birth, 26 hours total, but Im sure that some babies come quickly after being induced, it all depends on the woman and the baby. Im having my labor induced.? With my first pregnancy I had a :: I was given a suppository every 4 hours to induce labor. It took about 10 hours to get into a painful labor. yourself at that moment because of what you have been through. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070616213711AAUXZppHOME | Did anyone else use caster oil to induce their labor? What :: It looks like it worked for you, but it really isnt a good idea! Caster oil helps to relax smooth muscle tissue. This in turn could be harmful to your baby. My water broke two weeks early, i wasn't going into labor on my own, they induced me (gave me pitocin through my IV), it wasn't working that well and it caused my baby's heartrate to drop so I had a c-section instead.
Well I actually had to be induced. I went to the hospital at 6am they put in an IV, started Pitocin and at 8 am my doctor came in and broke my bag of water. After that I was in labor for 12 hours, pushed for 3 hours and then had an emergency C-section..
I was induced with my first baby because I was a week over my due date and I hadn't even dilated.
From the time they started the IV until I had my baby was 16 hours (pushed for 3).
If you are induced, some advice-They won't let you eat in the hospital as your not really supposed to eat during labor, so make sure you eat a big meal before going in! You'll need the energy!
when u get induced its not that bad i had to be induced with my second child..they will give you a medicine to help u dilate and they use a little hook thing to go up inside you to break your water once they broke my water i had my baby within the hour....best of luck to you and your baby How can I be most comfortable during a scheduled induction :: Our expert explains what you can do to make an induced labor more comfortable. Maybe it would have slowed down the birth but, I would have been more relaxed. http://www.babycenter.com/404_how-can-i-be-most-comfortable-durinheduled-induction_2611.bcHOME |
all depends on Your genes and how many babies u have had before...in general, thank god for inducing!...it makes the length of suffering shorter! do not worry!
they will administer Pitocin thru an IV. If oyur water hasnt broke then they will break it.
3 of my 5 have been induced. Pitocin can be given through IV to start contractions. Lately (latest induction was done in March) they have put a gel on the cervix that gives contractions almost immediately. Most doctors will not break your water until you are showing progress and so on. This is especially true if you are Group B Strep Positive.
I've been induced when I was 2 weeks late, 1 day before I was due (10 1/2 lb baby) and 3 weeks early with Gestational Diabetes. I have never had a c-section. My deliveries have all been between 2 and 6 hours from start to finish. My last one was out in one push. I do not see it being any more painful that going naturally however EVERY delivery is different and some women are very adamant that it is worse
My induction was mildly uneventful I went in about 6 am, got checked in and about an hr after getting ther I was preped for induciton. The doctor used this thin like stick with a small either pin like thing or a small hook I really couldnt tell. There was some pressure like you need to push but its just because hes up there getting things going" oops if your doc is a she sorry mine wasnt..lol". After that I got put on medications to move things alonge and by 6 pm I had a baby girl and my hubby was dancing around crying cause if I remember correctly I accidently broke a finger I squeezed so hard" Sorry honey". But Other then that he was a very happy man. I had no visitors that night as my parents had our oldest and where planning to visit the next day. If you want more details scarily enough I actually remember..lol. Just ask.
Interesting... my doc induced me a little differently. No pitocin in an IV for me. They gave me a pill to swallow. I had to take them every 4 hours. My water was already broken when i went in, but I wasn't contracting at all. It was a medium - long labor (15 hours from the 1st pill til delivery). The only good thing is that I didn't have to get an IV until they needed to give me pain meds. I was able to move about as much as I wanted, and I spent quite a bit of time in the shower.
It depends on you.I was induced, they put an IV in your hand and inject the inducing medicine (can't remember what it's called)
10 hours later, nothing was happening for me. I guess it was supposed to start my labor.
the doctor then broke my water for me and THATS when the active labor started. It started instantly!
When I was induced with #2 my membranes had already ruptured but I was not contracting regularly so they gave me Pitocin through my IV and I had him 2.5 hours later. With #3 I was given the pitocin first then my membranes were ruptured and I played a loooong waiting game waiting for him to come. Every induction is different.
medication is given intravenously to start contractions
the sac of waters is ruptured.
medication is placed in the cervix to aid dilation.
im not sure which order it goes in, my sister was induced. labour may or may not be a long process whether its induced or not.
