Do you think he will be a major help to the Lakers or that he wont be able to adapt to the NBA.. Lakers sign Sun Yue « NBA KINGDOM:: Aug 9, 2008 Sun Yue looks pretty weak looking. Too skinny. I think he's to fragile for our NBA players but if he rough up his style in 3 years he will be a top player but not before that
My opinion is a it biased because I payed against him and work as a consultant for their basketball program. Sun has a huge upside and can be a very big match-up problem in the NBA. He has a great feel for the game, very good court awareness a high basketball IQ and can finish with both hands around the basket. He is not great at shooting the NBA 3 but he can knock it down enough for him to be a threat and force you to close out. Once he really learns to use his body he'll make his money keeping smaller guards on his hip walking them to spots and hitting 15 to 17 foot shots over the top of them. He needs to develop more lateral quickness as long armed athletic defenders give him trouble at which point he has a habit of losing trust in his right hand on the dribble and letting the defender lock him to one side of the floor. He needs to further develop his body, then learn to use it NBA/American professional guards use their bodies on the floor (dribbling) a lot more and very different then international guards. He's only been playing american style basketball for 2 years now so there is a lot he needs to forget and a lot he needs to learn. He's in the perfect system and if he continues to develop at the rate he's been developing at over the last two seasons, he'll be an all star level player in the next 2 to 3 seasons. In my research, Sun Yue is good -- if not very good. He will be a solid NBA player. Could be a starting point guard or solid back-up point guard. Though not be as hit as Yao Ming, he might do better than Yi Jianlian. Personally, I think he will help the Lakers. Or, he might be the Coby Karl last season. In the business side, it is good for the Lakers. It is a good marketing strategy for them. Not only do they have the best basketball player in Kobe Bryant but a Chinese national on their team which lures the viewers in China. I doubt he will be a star in the league. Most likely possibility would be a starting guard but its also a reach. A solid guard would do.

What up Steve E,
i think Sun is a good project for the Lakers... and well Phil has always liked Big Guards and i think that he does give them some size and it kind of frees Sasha up to be more of a spot shooter. i think they just want to see how he develops and perhaps if he does- it opens up other options like including Jordan Farmer in a deal...
i don't think Sun is ever going to be a superstar but he's good insurance to have in case of injuries...
i also think he was confined a bit in China's Olympic style- they tried to force the ball into Yao a bit too much... and i've seen some Youtube clips of Sun and he actually has decent court vision. i'm not sure how comparable the system he was in will be to the triangle- but with his size if he can move and cut and knock down an open 15-18 footer- he'll be helpful.
This is where we'll make Phil earn his $10 million a year.

LA dabbles their stake on the big Chinese market. I don't think Sun Yue fits the Lakers who already have a lot of guards. Sun is a little slower also comparing to NBA standards. He might get lots of turnovers if he handles the ball for the Lakers.
I think he's hired for the advertisement.
Hope this helps.
