Thanks.
I pay about 150 a month, and i get 1000GB of bandwith granted i down own the server, but i am not paying a whole lot more.
You want to buy a web server? are you going to colocate it? or what?
Buying your own server is by far one of the most expensive things you can do. You need to pay for the server, then pay for the bandwith to host it from a DC. Geenraly when you co-locate you need to know your way around whatever os you are installing on it, as colo's generaly dont provide support.
Actually it is cheaper in most cases to colo a server then to pay for a dedicated box. I have a colo facility 2 blocks from my store. It is nothing more than a brick structure with glass block windows. Inside it is all climate controlled with racks of servers. A small office is in one corner for techs to monitor the network. Cost per month is $125 for 2u space with 25 gigs bandwidth. Bandwidth overage is charged per gig. I have my company servers there. The cost also includes 12 hours per month of on site time to install new hardware or inspect the box.
HP, IBM and Compaq make servers to name a few. Your best bet is to build one. It will be much cheaper to build a high end 2u or 4u server then to buy one.
I'd suggest getting a dedicated machine instead of going colo. It makes it a lot easier to replace/upgrade.
