well one kitten drinks its formula really well the other we cant get to drink and we are really worried please please help

thanks so much

sincerely, Melissa We have dogs so,

This is what you need to do,

You need to take it to a vet.It may have no strengh to lap it up,Or suck it off the bottle.

Take it to a vet and see what they say. They may give you a feeding tube. Its not to bad with them.Other then feeding it every few hours. You take a surrenge with a long tube stick in threw its throught and into its belly and push it in there.

But ask a vet first because there could be other reasons and it could kill it.
  • Are you helping it to eliminate? Newborn kittens cannot eliminate waste on their own, their other does it for them by licking their tummy and genitals to stimulate urination and defecation. You need to get a damp cloth or paper towel and lightly rub the kittens genital area. They should go, and quite a bit, so just keep folding the paper towel over until they stop. They need to do this every time they eat. If they haven't this may be why. Sorry if you have already been doing this. Otherwise you need to call a vet ot animal shelter, as the kitten may have a serious defect that requires medical attention. Sometimes mother cats abandon kittens if something is wrong with them, that may be why they are on their own.
  • When we had newborn kittens we'd feed the ones who wouldn't really drink with an eye dropper. We had to get their mouths open enough. Also maybe when feeding them wrap them in a warm blanket and pull them close to you, this seemed to help in my situation.
  • I've raised several orphaned kittens, if you put the formula in an eye dropper and squeeze just a drop at a time in it's mouth it should swallow. Don't go to fast or you could choke it and be careful not to get it on its nose you don't want the kitten to breath it in. Once it gets a little stronger and gets the idea it should start eating. Also are you aware that newborn kitty's can't poop or pee by themselves? The momma would lick them to stimulate them to go so you need to take a warm wet rag and rub there little bottoms to get them to go. If the kitty needs to relieve it's self that may be why it won't eat. Good luck!
  • there is so much you need to do. visit a vet, or shelter.

you need to be mom, they cant regulate their body heat, cant go to the bathroom, cant see.

they need to eat every two hours, if he hasnt eaten in two days, he is probably critical and will die soon.
  • The answer is a syringe--you may be able to get one from your vet--without the needle. You fill it with formula--kitten formula, which you can get at most pet stores in powdered form--and just nudge it into the kitten's mouth--not too far!--and gently depress the plunger, making sure the kitten doesn't choke on it, and that it doesn't overrun her mouth. The bottle is ideal, but if it's not cooperating, the syringe will make sure it doesn't starve while it's getting the hang of nursing. You might try presenting the bottle within a little bit of fake fur, just so it seems more familiar to her and she has something upon which to milk-tread. They will need to be fed about every three or four hours, no more than a couple of ounces at a time, initially. Your vet can give you a more specific idea, or the formula container should have guidelines. And they should be bottle fed until they are at least six weeks old, when they would normally be in the process of weaning, anyway.
You will need to encourage elimination by gently rubbing their bottoms with, for instance, a bit of terry cloth. We used hand towels, and it worked fine. And do not worry if they don't poop for several days at a time. The kitten formula is almost totally their necessary, and it takes a little while for them to work up to a bowel movement. They should pee on a regular basis, though. Both processes need to be stimulated, as above, till their digestive and eliminative practice begins to klck in. Customarily, the mother cat will do for them till she begins weaning at six to eight weeks, but occasionally they will start to go on their own about the fourth. It varies by the individual.
Do not even try to box train them till they are weaned, although you may leave a small box of litter in with them, to accustom them to the idea. And they should be kept in a nice little nest, preferably a box with a top opening--at least eight or ten inches tall, so they can't accidentally climb out and get hurt. This should be padded with towels or like that, to make sure they don't get chilled, and to keep them comfy and comforted.
A word of caution: with orphaned kittens, there is often what they call failure to thrive, for which the cure is a grown cat to 'mother' them. As so much of cat behavior is learned rather than instinctive, this is critical to their physical, mental and emotional well-being. But it doesn't have to be a queen. Ours were reared by our six-month-old tom, Chimera. If you don't have a cat, perhaps you could borrow one from a friend--just a week or so is all it takes, but it makes a world of difference. Or perhaps foster them with a friend's cat. Plus, if you foster them with a domesticated and box trained feline, they'll mostly do that job for you.
  • I also prefer to use an eye dropper. Be sure to tilt its chin up so that it doesn't choke on the milk -- and by milk I mean either goat's milk or KMR.

Just making sure you are aware that you shouldn't be giving cow's milk to kittens.

Here are links to sites with all the info you need!

  • Most likely the kitten has gotten sick because he realizes that the bottle is not his mother so he has winged himself. what i suggest is you keep trying to feed him if it don't work you may have to force feed him, the way you should go about this is little by little take the eye dropper and drop a few drops at a time and take it from there. give him alot of attention and wrap a heating pad and wrap it in a towel and wrap him up and don't give up keep it in your mind that there may not be a big chance of him living prey for the best. I have had to do this several times, so i know.
