    Hi folks,

I was reading the guide of CC from Manny Carvalho, and have some problems with it.
At my job, we use Icq for network version, Ewido security suite, Process
Guard and Trojan Hunter 4.0, Konfabulator 1.8, Firefox 1.0, etc.
When I turn my computer on, I get the hidden process screen poping up
for almost applications. If I close for example, Trojan Hunter, Outpost
blocks my internet connection and I have to close it and re-open
it.I.Even when Konfabultor is accessing the internet to get weather
informations, the hidden process pops up. know it´s a configuration in
OP that can disable and my connections won´t stop.
What I´d like to know is how can I setup it for reducing my problems ?
What can I give permission and forget it, what I should get a warning.

    Best Regards,

    DonKid.

  • I´d like to know If I choose to allow access for my application, OP will be running at the maximum protection.
It´s painfull when you close trojan hunter and OP blocks my connection, or popups a warning everytime when Konfabulator just try to get a weather report.Well, security and convenience are often at odds. You want convenience, you usually give up a little security. For maximum security you would use block. For you, that might making using the internet difficult. That's the point of layered security. When you have to back off on something there's another layer to protect you. You seem to have sufficient tools that putting this on allow should not cause you problems. Give it a try and see what happens. There may be more things we can do.

And, if I may ask what problem did you have with the FAQ? I'm always looking for opportunities to improve.

  • DonKid -

I have a similar problem that seems to be exclusively related to Trojan Guard 4 (hidden process popups, component change popups, memory modified by another process, etc).

What I just tried that seemed to help a lot was to make the file "thsec.dll" (in the Trojan Hunter folder) read only.

The question is....will this change to this file (being "read only") make my Trojan Hunter less effective somehow. I don't see how at this time. It's not one of the files that gets updated when you update your trojan definitions. I think I'll post that question on the Trojan Hunter support forum.

Anyway, I thought I would just mention it (in case it might help you out). With that change, I could go back to all the defaults of Outpost and not get a bunch of popups and keep network access to the programs I want to have that access.

  • Just to copy that response here:

...You can safely delete THSec.dll.... It's extra protection against TerminateProcess and similar attacks for TrojanHunter Guard. It's not required for TrojanHunter Guard to run.
