i have just installed xbmc. my question is: how do you get the danish letters æ,ø and å to show in the subtiltes?
i may be entirely wrong, but i thought the dvd player couldnt use external subs yet.

no subtitles when playing dvd, of course in OSD screen subtitles are enabled, i've checked the arial.ttf font, removed the udata/tdata 00facexx folders on the e-drive, removed xbmc and re-installed (version 06-09-04), screen-calibration checked and subtitles are within the window, xbmc installed on f-drive ..., also when playing vob-files (ripped dvd) no subtitles
What next ? Anybody else have this problem ?

"dvd" and "vob-files (ripped dvd)" what (original DVD-Video movie...etc.?)? Which player ("Play using..." in context-menu) are you using (MPlayer or DVDplayer?)? Please also attatch/link a debug log (see the online-manual)!
Settings->Video->Subtitles.
Don't be afraid of the manual, or of looking around the GUI!

Hi, I hope you can see what goes wrong with my subtitles, the player is dvdplayer, I could not select mplayer (how ?, I tried with external dvd player, but I was not able to select mplayer dll file), i'm playing a ripped dvd-video, burned on dvd+rw disc..., good luck (probably it is my environment...), thx

some of my ripped dvd-videos to hard-discs have subtitles with dvdplayer and the rest work with mplayer, if dvdplayer works then it seems to be that mplayer is not working, and vice versa
the dvd-video files are movies from p2p ( as divx and authored to dvd-video or dvd-rips)
maybe there are some problems with the subtitle stream index ?
What can I do that dvdplayer (as default) always work ? (get the code, and change something, add extra logging, ....) tell me !!!

i may be entirely wrong, but i thought the dvd player could use external subs yet.you are not wrong, the dvdplayer does not support external subtitles. The dvdplayer only support embedded VobSubs (ie. real DVD-Video subtitles that come 'built-in' with most original DVD-movies). So it doesn't matter which font you use as VobSubs don't use fonts, (VobSubtitlkes are actually images with each letter/character being a picture that is displayed).
@brutusxxxx, you need to tell us more about your subtitles and your DVDs. By the way to try play with MPlayer bring up the contrxt-menu (see the online-manual) and choose "Play using..." when the DVD-ROM is high-lighted.
