screenshots from a movie with .srt subs.
why i get these messed up fonts?
    anything to get them fixed?
make them look smooth and fine as in xbmp.
haven't changed any settings in xbmc (latest build 2004-05-09)

    thanx

    / oskar.

  • i've tried the new xbmc-2004-05-16, the subtitles (.srt) seem to be fixed(?), but now they are out of the viewarea.

  • dear xbmc forum members,

since the release of the 8th of may build (i.e. 8th, 9th and 14th of may releases), i have problems with the subtitles (using .srt and .sub).

there is an ugly shadow around the font, which i cannot seem to avoid.

is there a setting added? previous to the 8th of may release, everything was ok.

    any help is much appreciated.

    hans

  • subs are fixed.

  • i do know that... in the first builds of xbmc there was a time no border was on the subs. they were very hard to read on screen. actually they're very easy to read now; only ugly http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif . but i can live with it for now. it's just you make a very slick gui, osd and everything and then the subs are like... don't find the right word... :) but i'm sure you will be able to fix it; only it's harder then you thought.

  • go to video settings and calibrate the screen corners, fonts position and that "square"... :)

you'll get them on fixed postion then.

The formatting goes away entirely. Then I make it courier font. No syntax hilighting but at least it doesn't look messed up. Thanks for reading!

  • plus

you're forgetting that the subtitles are now fixed to the bottom of the visible area, and not to the fixed position on the screen as you set it in video settings.

i got the answer back at the xboxscene forum that that has something to do with the new mplayer.dll. so... i'm back to the 4/23 until they resolve that.

these fonts borders are really annoying

    plus

fonts size vary, depending on particular movie video resolution!!

    totally down.. hm

    lets wait and see..

  • yup, been working on it already, problem is the subs are being rendered on the original resolution, then stretched to screenresolution, so as the resolution of the files is lower the subs get bigger and more stretched (uglier). seems you're playing some low resolution videos as those subs look very stretched for a size 18 font, even with 20% enlarge.

  • nope, no way to fit it (unless you know hoe to code).
its a known bug and will hopefully be fixed soon.

moving to the "bug discussion". :)

  • thanks, using xbmp in the mean time then.

  • latest cvs build (23rd may) seems to have this "vertically stretched srt sub" problem fixed, but now vobsubs have gone "vertically shrinked" (is that the right word? i dunno). well at least dts pass-through is working now. great job you guys http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

  • ok, thanx mate :)

  • yep i've taken them(screenshots) from movies with a res lower than 640 but just to outline the problem :d .
thank you for trying to fix the problem. hope you can make them look as good as before or even better http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif now that's a challenge.

  • i've corrected an issue with missing texture filtering on the alpha channel for subs. however i think because of the way the alpha is used in mplayer it may still have issues.

  • yep i can confirm what leo said but i'm on a pal 4:3 tv set. subs look stretched and subtitle enlargement has no effect at all.

    greetzzzz

  • is it possible aspect ratio to be fixed too?
subtitles still seem vertically stretched in 4:3 mode (ok in 16:9)

    leo

  • hello,

these images are taken from a build i just compiled today...
waited until the subs were "fixed". all the movies i've taken these images from have different framerates and different resolutions...
normally there isn't any difference between the size of the subs; now there is, there is usually not an ugly border around them to. note: i've used "arial-iso-8859-7 size 18" and zoomed it with 20% as this has the perfect size on-screen for me, remember that all the other arial subtypes have an even bigger and uglier border. :(

hope this gets fixed as they aren't very enjoyable to watch atm...

  • hi,

i just tried the 15.05 cvs - subtitles are now using the empty space under the video, but font seem vertically streched (2x) and the function enlarge subtitles (%) in video settings does not work (font does not change no matter what value i set there).

update: i'm on ntsc 4x3 set

    regrds,
    leo

  • subs are meant to have a border - that's how they work. check any dvd with subs...
the smoothing on the border is likely not being handled all that well at present on the other hand.
