Please podcasters - I implore you - stop the giant promo-playing, backslapping circle jerk that is becoming podcasting. I don't mind a plug for a good show, but have some sense when you do it - please!

Audio comments on 90% of the shows I hear are all from other podcasters and are nothing more than poorly disguised attempts to plug themselves.
When I listen to a show it is not to hear clips of people from other shows talking about how they listen to the show I already have on to try to get me to listen to their show.

Illinoise, that was pretty amusing. However hearing that in a podcast, then audio clips from other people, then more lists of what you listen to followed by snippets of other shows and name drops isn't going to keep a lot of people listening.
I'd like to see shows do well, people making their living from them and the growth of the medium. It seems though that few shows are looking long term though and deliver content that isn't much more than a list of other podcasters and promos and voice comments from them.
If most folks want to make it a little clique where you all mention your friends then so be it. I'm not forced to listen. Plenty of shows out there are capable of coming up with enough to fill a show without reading who is in their chat room out loud or playing someone else's clips.

Actually one of the first podcasts I tried was one that promised to talk about what was going on in the blogs daily. I listened to it a couple of times and realized that it was only one-sided , you know the kind - everything one party does is greatness and everything the other one is awful and conniving.... blah... wasn't what I was hoping for...
I still would subscribe to a podcast that talked about the hot topics and the 'best of' in the day's podcasts/blogs...

There are soooo many blogs that it'd be hard to do that. You couldn't read enough to even come close to getting a compendium. It's sorta practical and resonable what mr. quidnunck does.
MichaelB -- now that's I show I would listen to. Review the shows of the podcasters who are podcasting about other podcasters, too. :D
