GemiScorp Home Page: Your Source for Quality Software at Very Low Prices:: Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe. For Windows NT and 2000 from: 1) Left-click the Start menu, mouse-over Settings, and single-click the Control Panel. http://www.gemiscorp.com/english/slogon/faq.htmlHOME | I came upon this weird thing when I tried to hexedit my explorer1.exe to make the start button say guide. I couldn't find the right spot, so I did replace all 'S t a r t' with 'B e g i n'. When I reloaded, the button still said start, but it looked cool, compact, and rectangular. however, there is a side effect. If you have My documents, pictures, music, computer, or network places set to have a drop down menu when clicked on in the start menu, it just opens up the folder. Its pretty cool, but I'd like it if the only difference was it said begin. If anyone would like to help me, I can send them my explorer1.exe. It still doesn't say 'Begin'.
Hey make your life simple, instead of hex edit, since that is really confusing. Just use ResHacker (FREE/images/forums/icons/cool.gif, I might note). On explorer.exe go to string table and number 37 (38 for classic style). On the left one of the values saying "start" ("Start" on classic style). change it to what ever you want. I've even done "You are a big fat monkey". XP is the only windows that will allow you to do more than 5 characters.
find ResHacker at:

Make sure and do a backup of explorer.exe before you change it (explorer.bak, so viruses won't hit it). After you make the changes, reboot.
Questions? Ask me. By the way the word 'start' in the luna, is NOT imaged based /images/forums/icons/wink.gif, just a different font.Edited by XerxesTheMighty on 06/30/03 08:59.
This should go without saying, but were you in Classic mode before you did that?
Visual Styles, such as Luna, are all image-based.
No, I wasn't does is there an XP alternative?
