How can I very quickly manage to get the following items donated to
Paul Revere Middle School is Los Angeles, Califonia:
defibrillator, electric golf cart for the school nurse (one nurse,
2500 population on 275 acres), laptop to keep student health and
emergency information current (presently being done by hand)????
Because this school is near Pacific Palisades, CA, it is perceived as
being a wealthy community school and, in fact, 40% of the student
population is bussed in from very, very poor neighborhoods? This is so
sad and I'm flummoxed at how to quickly beg for these items or find a
corporate angel. Help?
I think I can offer some advice on the following items:
1. defibrillator
- You're talking about an AED. They cost about $1,200 - $1700. I
would highly suggest contacting your local EMS / Fire department and
asking them. Even better, ask them for a local *PRIVATE* EMS
Provider. Most private EMS providers want great press, and they also
deal with AED sales. Ask around, and try to get in the press
involved.
2. laptop to keep student health and emergency information current
- I would get the local press involved. Ask for donations, someone
surely has an old laptop they wouldn't mind donating to the cause.
Try visiting local computer stores and asking too.
Instead of taking these tasks on one by one, I think it would be even
better to get the community involved, and try to raise the money so
you could purchase the items. It will be a challenge, but nothing is
better than bringing the community together for a common cause.
I'm not sure how the student's personal wealth affects the school's
abilities to have these goods, as a school gets a set amount per
pupil. As one in EMS, I believe an AED is critical for any public
school, it literally does save lives. A quick response is just as
essential, so that may necessitate the gulf cart.
