I used to get them things they could use for their homes (for women: picture frames, jewelry boxes, etc.)
For my male teachers, I would buy really gay things (ties, organizers, planners)
For your math teacher, get him a huge book of sodukos or something. Or get him Deal or No Deal - maybe he can calculate his odds of getting the million dollar case. Lol.

After elementary school (grade 6), I stopped giving presents. Until then: christmas ornaments were always a good bet.
It's a nice gesture, but you certainly do not have to.
If you do decide to get a gift, make it simple and not expensive.
You can get your teacher a tie (if he wears them), something to hang up like a frame, or a box of chocolate simply.
