home he died. When my grandson came in and went pass the cage he said where is he at I said Pop-pop took him to the Doctors and then he cried. We went and bought another a look alike but it was mean so after a few days we took that one back. But now we have a female that is pregnant and I don't know what to do when she has her pups I don't know how to care for her before and after birth. And How can I tell my grandson the neno is now nina? We love and take very good care of our pets.
First of all, let the pups be weaned by their mother but then move them to another cage. If the pups are there too long, the mother will see them as intruders and will eat them. The pups would also be separated by gender. The mother should be ok during pregnancy but should something seem wrong, take Nina to the vet.
As far as telling the kid that Neno is now Nina...I don't know. Breaking news like that to a kid that young is gonna be hard. Wish I could help more on that subject.
You can be honest with him and say this is now Nina, and Nina's babies will need to find good homes.
There are hamster lists online, you can ask about the birth questions over there. Korean4vn.com - Update Daily - Watch Online - Free Download Korean :: have got problem with activating my account. Hamsterific is a board, and a few down from that is All About Hamsters.
Just give away the pups. Will ur grandson be that disappointed its a girl? Wait, are u trying to make him think he still has the same one? That's not going to work.

Oh, and I agree about the whole sending home a hamster as a prize thing. That was stupid as heck.
Tell him the truth and with all the babies maybe let him keep 1 then maybe offer them to his classmates (make sure parents approve) and teachers. And make sure to separate the babies right after they are off the mom's milk because they tend to be cannibal.
Now might be a good time to give him the kid version of the circle of life.
Have you ever heard of the Rainbow bridge?

Maybe you can use that to soften the blow a little bit, but the truth is usually best.
Now, someone needs to have a talk with someone at that school.
Animals are not good rewards or gifts and should never be sent to a child's home without a guardian's consent. Never, but especially not when children are this young.
Good luck to you.
I guess that you'll have to explain the circle of life and that sometimes things die. It's sad granted, but lets look at the upside.. you get baby hamsters.
Sidenote: what out of her mind teacher sends home a HAMSTER for a prize. What happened to bubblegum and pencils?! I would be ticked off!
