It really depends on what you will use the device to do. For me, I am more of a messaging person who likes to type lots of e-mails and text messages. I like the physical keypad of the BlackBerry devices (my favorite being the BlackBerry 8700g). Also, with the newer devices like the Curve and Bold, media functions like listening to music and web surfing are sufficient for my needs. I can also take pictures and record videos. Now if you want a more media-friendly device then the iPhone may be your choice. The web browsing experience is awesome, as is the music player. The large screen is great, and the Application Store makes it easy to get applications for your needs.

T-Mobile G1. Smokes them both.
I gave up my Blackberry for the G1, and I wouldn't buy an iPhone with your money.
