ok so im deathly afraid of needles but have always told myself that no matter what i am going to get a tattoo. i have always not liked them but only became extremely afraid when a nurse i had in the hospital had to poke me 8 times to draw blood and popped 3 of my veins in the process. since that day i hate them but i have my mind set on getting it done. can some please tell me honestly how bad it hurts and im getting it done on my lower back, so what would be the most and least painful spots to get it done? also what could you compare the pain to? and the link below is a picture of what im getting done so if you want, you can let me know what you think of it. thanks a bunch♥♥♥♥
My daughter and I got zodiac tattoos for mother's day, her gift to me. I went first and told her that it really didn't hurt that much. I shouldn't have lied. When her turn came, she screamed out "you *****, you lied!" Everyone in the place turned and looked at us and the tattoo artist calmly said to her that she shouldn't be calling her mother a ***** on mother's day. It really was kind of funny. The outlining doesn't hurt too much, but the filling in with colour really hurts. (the ankle) She went back and had a really nice tattoo done on her lower back which was quite pretty and she seemed to handle it pretty well. I also went back and had another small one done on my leg. To me, the pain is similar to a burning sensation, stings like hell, but after awhile it is not so bad. i hate needles 2 but i got a tattoo n its really not that bad...dependin on how they do it...some ppl go over it twice but the guy i went to just did it hard the first time...the pain itself is like taking a scissor or somethin sharp n scratching it real hard on the area but im not gonna lie at times it can really sting...if it helps any u should bring some music to distract u

It was really scratchy feeling. Like someone scratching your skin really hard with sand paper.
Just an FYI when women get a tattoo in the area you are talking about it is generally called a "tramp stamp" or a "*** catcher!"
Can't answer myself as I haven't got mine done yet, but from my friend... it's a scratching type pain. Try draw your nail hard against your skin, and this will give you a rough idea of the pain level. It hurts more in areas close to bone with less fatty tissue over it, and where there are less nerves (you have the most nerves in your hands, feet, face and genital area) which will be sensitive to pain. My friend was also scared of needles.
for me it didnt hurt really. i think peope r very over dramatic about the pain they say they feel. i have 2 tattoos and plan on getting at least 1 more. one is on my lower back (didnt hurt, more of a tickle) and the other is on my shoulder(this hurt a little bit after a while becauase it took 5 hrs to do). dont base ur decision of where to get it on the pain factor tho, u could end up regretting that later. i have quite a few tattoos and there not as bad as people say, the first few seconds it may hurt but then u get so use to it that it doesnt. the lower back is one of the most painful becuz theirs not that much skin, its closer to bone but the arm and legs and stuff dont hurt bad at all. but then again everyone has a different pain tolerence. my dad does tattoos so i grew up watching people get them done, i can tell u this much, ive never seen anyone cry... well good luck.
it feels like a lot of scratching, depending on where it is, the pain is mild or bad. I had a tattoo artist do my back, right next to my shoulder blade, a very tiny one but one none the less and it was barely irritating, they only used one needle though. One needle was insanely different to the 3 they used on stomach right next to my hip. That one was insanely painful!! I bled for 2 days with that one...

girl i was the same way with needles intill i got my first one 12 years ago .. i now have 9 tats but i will be honest i never cried at all on any of my tats intill i got the one on my back and i;ll tell u this its hurts like hell .. i have 2 of each arm 2 on one leg one of the other leg one on my neck and one on my back . if u like email me and i will send u pic of my tats the one ur showing is a big tats and i have a little one . the most painful part is when the needles hits the bone ..but i think u could do it prove 2 ur self ur stong .. u will love it after its done and over with .. trust me
this going to be a lower back tatoo I would say if your going to do it get drunk beforehand so you don't feel pain like you normaly would
hey dont listen to the first guy and get drunk as this will thin your blood and you will bleed more. im terified of needles i refuse to have jabs unless it is really nessesary, but i have loads of tattoos and it really is nothing like an injection so i wouldnt worry about that to much.i havnt got a tattoo on my lower back so i dont know what the pain is like their, but i have got some on my wrists and foot and the pain is bearable so i sholudnt imagine it would be to bad, the only thing you can really compare the pain to is somthing scratching sunburnt skin. as regaurds to the design i really like it
Kay I have like 4 little tatooes. I also HATE needles because of stupid and incompitant nurses! soooo many times they have done an IV on me and missed and my whole arm swelled up and HURT like the devil! BUT getting a tatoo is totally different than a shot or iv in your arm! It does hurt a little- also depending on WHERE u get it also! I have one on my butt that didnt hardly hurt at all- stung at first but thats about it. BUT i have a little one on my shoulder and it hurt more! The fleshier the spot- the less it hurts. If its like an ankle- shoulder or someplace closer to bone with not much PADDING it hurts a little more but if I CAN DO IT anyone can!
It hurts a lot I'll just tell you now. I would say lower back probably would hurt less than lets say on the arm or on your skull. My only tattoo is on my chest, and I remember it hurting a lot. It's almost exactly how you imagine it. They stick the needle and then do the tattoo. However, if you really want to get it done there are ways to get around the pain. The initial sticking of the needle is when it hurts the most, but after that it gets better as you get used to the feeling. Try to distract yourself, ask the tattoo artist if you can listen to some music while you are getting it done, or talk to him while he is doing it.
I have 3 tatoos, my upper back (a celtic knot with my name, my mom's name and my grandmother's name), my left shoulder (a "B", Boston Red Sox) and my lower back (My favorite quote). The only thing that ever really hurt was when I was 16 getting my first one (upper back) and the artist went right over my spine. I have a very high tolerance for pain and they really don't bother me. They sting a bit and it kind of burns, but for me it's just a weird sensation, not so much pain... The thing that I can't stand is the vibrations! But not enough to not get them...
It sounds like you're really determined to get a tattoo, even though you have this big fear of needles. It's obvious that you've thought about this a lot. Have you asked yourself why you want a tattoo so badly? Is it a good reason? Will "future you" like it? Try to imagine yourself at 25, 35, 45, 55, 85 - - does it fit into the picture of yourself then? If so, go for it!
Tattoo artists are a lot like nurses - there are good ones and bad ones. Make sure you do your homework about the place. Is it clean? Safe? Is the tattoo artist experienced? I think all of these things will make a big difference.
It doesn't feel like needs...it feels like heat...the pain comes from the heat..It almost feels like someone is burning your skin but not poking you with needles feeling...just heat
Okay I have a lower back tat and I am very boney?? The areas that hurt the worst r the ones with less meat they say but it is also said that the breast hurts too! My sisters got there feet done and they almost cried. One of them got there thigh done and almost cried but we all got our backs done and I was the only one sleeping and I am totally terrified of needles! If possible don't let the artist take a break because I was awake when he started doing my color and yep it was more like a knife being dragged across my skin but nothing to cry about! I think it was because my skin was swollen and angry and taking a break was not a bright idea! I watch my other sister get her boob done and she was cool! We all have back tats and none of us r tramps so don't let the idiots of the world tell u about the logo they gave that area! You could be a tramp with a tat anywhere that is sexual! Good Luck! Oh and don't get drunk like that 1st person told u! Why? because there is only two things that could happen 1. you get sent home because they wont do a drunk person or 2. you bleed forever because that is the effect of alcohol in the blood and the tat would take forever!
okay that part if ya got a little meat back there really doesn't hurt that bad, towards thespine yes a little but that also depends on how you handle pain. They say and I felt it, that it hurts or tickles women on the left side more. After a little while of dealing with it it's really not that bad at all, it starts to tickle! Once you get one you have to get more though!!!! The worst place to get one that hurts REALLY bad is the palm of your hand and I had to get it done 6 times and it's still not perfect!

Well have you ever been stung by a WASP , it is like a stinging , burning type of a feel the out line is the worst is like there dragging some thing hot over the skin .Don't let anyone tell you it don't hurt , and any were that has not got a lot of flesh like back, feet , hands etc hurt more , but it is bearable
AND YOU CAN PUT NUMBING CREAM ON BEFORE HAND , I was the same as you but i now have a large tat on my back .
Just make sure you have seen the artists work be for you get 1 to make sure they do a good job .

Why would you want a tramp stamp? They look stupid when you're 30+...
Edit: I'm all for tattoos, but the tramp stamp has got to be one of the worst to get. You can get arm/upper back/wrist/ankle/leg tats and have them look fine for the majority of your life. But a lower back tat will have you regretting it when you're older.
