Now have pain and throbbing in my tooth. Is this normal. I had this before I went in and was told i had a cracked filling and needed a crown. Thought the pain would be gone, but its not. Is this normal?
1. In grinding back for a crown, some damage is done to the tooth. It's like getting a big filling. If you're unlucky, the damage can cause the nerve to "die", necessitating an extraction or an RCT.
2. The temporary crowns are often glued on with a soft cement. This makes it easy for the dentist to remove it at the fitting appointment, but sometimes it starts to leak and cause sensitivity. It may even pop off. Re: Lost temporary crown:: 1 post - Last post: Oct 12, 2003Re: Lost temporary crown - Discuss Restorative Dentistry. My suggestion is that you contact the dentist and arrange for the crown to be removed and recemented with a harder cement. I also like to swab the tooth surface with a corticosteroid eye solution before placing temp crowns because it lessens the afterpain. Yup... you probably have nerves exposed and although they are covered with the temps, they are still sensitive. Let you dentist know if it continues for another day or so. Thanksgiving is here, you might have to wait until Friday! Take some Tylenol. When I had my temp, it throbbed until I got my permanent, and the doctor put a 'clove' mixture to deaden the nerves under the crown.
Hang in there, but heck, you pay enough for a crown... call the dentist if you're too uncomfortable!
