OUCH!! | Ask MetaFilter:: Nov 3, 2007 How bad does it hurt to get your legs waxed? . It hurt more the first time (6-7), just because it was surprising I think. If you don't exfoliate regularly, your legs will itch like mofo in about a week. http://ask.metafilter.com/75349/OUCHHOME | I got my tattoo started a while ago, I went first thing in the morning having not eaten in probably around 11 hours at least so my blood sugar would have been pretty low. It was agony, I got all dizzy and they had to stop, I was supposed to go away, calm down and come back in the afternoon to get it finished but I woosed out. I'm going back finally to get it finished a week today and I just wanted to know what I should expect. Will it be as painful as before? I'm taking someone for support this time incase it is. Or could it have been made a bit worse by my not eating beforehand? Can anyone give me a quick do's and don't's before my tattoo as well (e.g. don't drink alcohol).
Thanks and I know there's tonnes of 'how sore are tattoo' posts I just wanted to know if blood sugar affected it
ok u can eat carbs and chocolate but no aclohol or drugs and eat chocolate afterword to get the sugar back into ur system
eating or not doesnt have anything to do with the pain.. its gonna hurt regardless sweety!!!! but you definetly need to eat before you get a tattoo, cuz youre losing blood and sugar as youre getting tattooed. that causes you to get dizzy, and you can possibly pass out.
theres really nothing you can do to stop the pain..
and since you already started the tattoo.. it would be stupid of you not to go back and finish it. regardless!!!
maybe if you do take a friend with you, this person will distract you from the pain.. ;]
yes there are many things that can affect how easy a tattoo is done. drinking alcohol thins the blood and means you will bleed more (my brother not so cleverly went the day after a big night out and bled everywhere when he was only having an outlined tattoo done). also if you are under the influence then your immune system is lowered and can increase the risk of any infection. if you are on medication they need to know as this can also increase the risk of infection. if you haven't eaten properly then it is likely to be more painful as your body is trying to cope with more than one thing. also if you are dehydrated then it will hurt more as your body won't be functioning properly (this also applies to being hungry). sleep deprivation can affect the pain tolerance levels as you won't have much energy. and do not go when it is the time of the month as everything will be more irritating. all these things can also inhibit your body when it is dealing with the stress (it is after all a wound). so really being well rested and eating and drinking enough will mean it will go much more smoothly and heal much easier. also as it can cause a high adrenaline rush and make people nervous then you need to relax. deep breathe throughout the procedure and it may help to talk whilst you're having it done. this way you are taking your mind off it. ask your friend to distract you by talking about something else. and lastly if need be ask the person doing your tattoo to pause if you need them to. the seconds relief every so often can make it go more smoothly. My artist will not give me a tattoo unless I have definitely eaten within the last 4-6 hours. Sure I could lie to him -- but it isn't in my best interest to do so.
This is one of the questions that is on the client sheet that I must sign.
it's not a good thing that you didn't eat.
you should eat at least 4 hours before you get your tattoo.
you most likely got all dizzy because you didn't eat for a while.
I always eat before I go. I also bring a candy bar or something with alot of sugar to snack on during the tattoo. Also bring a bottle of water. My best advice is to bering something to focus on. i bring my Video Ipod and watch movies. Sometimes I can even forget I am getting tattooed. Time flies by when I can focus on a movie. Do not take tylenol or asprin before as it thins your blood and will make you bleed more, do not take any pain pills or it will lower your blood pressure and can make it easier to pass out. When the pain gets rough practice deep breathing. My biggest problem is when I tense up and forget to breathe deeply and slowly. Good luck and I hope it turns out beautifully!! keeping focused on something else helps especially if you dont' have a high pain tolerance. But yeah, try eating something at least you won't have that on your mind :)
I got mine on my wrist and I didn't think it hurt, it just felt hot, my friend also got one on her wrist and what happened to you happened to my friend, she didn't eat all day and they had to stop in the middle of the tattoo b/c she was getting sick and dizzy, the tattoo artist gave her some candy with sugar in it and she was able to get it finished after 10 minutes or so.
