Do you clean your baby's toys every time they fall on the floor?
Published by: mike 2010-03-12
  • This is for parents of babies who place everything in their mouths.
PS We don't wear outdoor shoes in the house (just slippers, bare feet, socks).

  • No, I don't. Most of the time he spends on the floor with his toys. I do wash them every now and then though. But if I don't notice any dirt on it, I'm not in a rush to wash it otherwise I'd be constantly cleaning his toys.

  • I have found from personal experience that the less I sterilize things, the better it is for my kids immunities. Both of my girls used to be sick much more often when my house was sterile. Now, once a year if that when it comes to a major cold or the stomach flu. Why? Because I stopped sterilizing and washing everything.

  • Not at all. They have to build up immunity to germs and believe it or not kids would be sick all of the time if you didn't take it from the dog and give it back to them.

  • first kid i sterilized everything that hit the floor.
second kid i washed it with hot soap and water
third kid i grab it from the dog and give it back to the baby.

  • No not at all. I can barely prevent the youngest from eating food off the floor. That would be in my home where I know how often I clean. If it fell on the floor somewhere else, then yes.

  • Nope, you should not be OC in cleaning the toys everytime it fall.

  • I did in the begining, but I got over that a long time ago, lol

  • no because the floor is clean

  • No, I don't. There was a study done a few years ago that suggested one of the reasons for the increase in allergies and asthma might be due to over-sterilization. Kids do need to build and immunity and they need to be exposed to do so- within in reason of course.

  • No. You will drive yourself nuts doing this.

  • no... they have to be immune to something or they will be sick all the time.

  • no. being a germaphob is not a good thing to teach your child

  • no i'd never be done

  • are you serious?!?!?!?!

NO WAY! if i cleaned every toy that fell on the floor i would be cleaning toys and not enjoying my children. I have twins who used to eat everything.. this is common.. in my opinion if they are not exposed to common germs its not good for them.. a little dirt is okay.. if it fell in something gross then yes.. on the floor no.. to me that is SILLY sorry

  • no way

  • LOL! I'd never leave the house if I attempted to do that.

EDIT: Awesome, SayWhoRU!! We have a cat who doesn't quite understand the toys are my son's and not hers.

  • No - unless it happens in public place.

  • I don't have kids yet, but with daycare, I have babies and they steal bottles, and I clean off the bottle's nipple before letting the other baby have it back.

But, yes I would, because, think about how dirty your capet is. Your nasty feet, your dog might pee on that carpet, your baby spits up on it, the baby might soak through the diaper. And when you vacuum, you are only cleaning the SURFACE of your carpet, you are not getting underneath it, and your baby is 'eating' that filth off of your carpet.... And that is just flat out unsanitary and that is just plain gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL...My son is almost 6 months, last night was the first time he dropped a toy on the floor and it was in the dogs mouth and I gave it back to him!!! Normally I would have washed it thorougly in hot soapy water...i've gone with the 5 second rule now!

  • no I didn't because they fall onto a blanket they were on. But when I was at a store or something then I would wash it when I got home and don't let baby have again till it was cleaned I would say. I know this baby I probably would since the floor been so dirty..
