HELP!
Go to www.creativecow.net and see if you can get this question
answered there. I am not trying to screw google out of getting paid
(you should pay them for me giving you this answer). But you can get
this answered there very easily. Just post your question on the
appropriate board.
no, trying to save extremely large (up to 350meg) .PSD files WITHOUT
first generating a full resolution composite image... this is an
automatic process that photoshop does to maximize compatibilty...
Adobe says that if you turn off "maximize compatibility" in prefs it
won't do that, but it still does anyway... I am looking to save what
can be (on files with many layers) a 45 minute process on a g4 with
over a gig of ram and two 500mhz processors! are you speaking of working from the photoshop deluxe file-type, and
not saving the master, and only wanting to save a .jpeg or .gif or
.tiff file instead? just looking for clarification. thanks!
Hi downtownnick
I suspect the extra time you are experiencing is down to file size,
which is a consequence of the "maximize compatibility" feature of
Photoshop. As I understand it, this is due to the saving of both a
layered version of your file, but also a flattened version
(pre-composited), so the extra time is both due to the extra save, but
also the flattening of your file.
A solution, depending on how your other preferences are set, may be
this:
1. In the File Handling preferences, set the option to "Always
Maximize Compatibility" for PSD files (photoshop files), which will
hopefully bypass the flattening process, OR make sure it is disabled
as it will be enabled as default.
2. In the same preferences, set the "Ask Before Saving Layered TIFF
files" to on, and maybe make use of the layer compression (used when
saving a layered TIFF file).
I hope this answers your question. If there is something I've missed,
please let me know what it is and I'll do my best to provide further
details.
