Nortel Networks not only commands the largest share of the virtual private network (VPN) gateway market, but its share is growing faster than those of its competitors, according to a report from the Synergy Research Group (SRG).

SRG reported that Nortel Networks is the leader for the third consecutive quarter, enlarging its share of VPN gateway revenue to 29.1 percent at the end of the Q3 1999, up from 21.3 percent at the end of Q2 1999.

"We're not just holding the lead; we're increasing it," said John Doyle, Nortel Networks director, IP network applications. "This kind of market acceptance is the best possible testimony to the quality of our Contivity family of Internet virtual private network solutions and the benefits it provides customers."
