Where goes chips so goes Internet. At least that's some of the banging
Internet stocks get today as semi-conductor stocks are downgraded. ISDEX falls
4.5% while NASDAQ loses 3.3%. Pundits equate softer chip sales with softer PC
sales with softer Internet growth.
We disagree. If anything we think Internet companies lead the pack, the PC in
tow. Cheaper PCs means more sold. And anyone buying a PC today does so for one
major reason: Internet access.

E*TRADE (NASDAQ:EGRP) service is hit again with bugs
that interrupt
trading. This is the second day that E*TRADE has experienced problems.
If
these continue we will remove EGRP from out February HotWatch list in
favor
of another Web-based broker. However, we also remember when AOL
experienced
growing pains and it came through it. The trouble of success. 1 in 7
trades
occurs on the Web now.
Open Market (NASDAQ:OMKT) reports $16 million
fourth-quarter
revenue vs. $18 million 4Q97. Loss widens, $6.4 million vs. $3
million.
Full-year 1998 revenue is $62.1 million vs. $62.3 million. Product
sales
drop while service sales rise. 1998 loss hits $34.9 million vs. $58
million
loss for 1997.
RealNetworks (NASDAQ:RNWK) continues its agreement with
the NBA to
broadcast games on the Internet through Real's Real Broadcast Network.
We
think the broadcast side of Real is vastly underappreciated.
