loose a lot of weight
muscles fast
hair color might change due to chlorine
before meets dont eat to much and dont drink soda eva! its bad for ur bones when is very important in swimming and it makes u throw up in the water. you can eat powerbars during/before meets
gatorade -better then water but its personal preference
bananas to prevent feet cramping
i eat a looot from swimming im 85 pounds and in 9th grade but i can do 13 pull ups and 67 push ups (im a girl) and i eat 5 meals a day not including snacks
this is wat i saw after i started swimming but everyone is different but most of the stuff u will see and shoudl do
remeber eat healthy and keep swimming :D

As with all sports, if you are already eating a proper diet (lotsa fruits and vegetables, small amounts of protein and fat) then you need not change your diet.
With regard to training, only your coach can help you with that. No one on one of these boards can give you a satisfactory answer.
The most important thing you can do as a first year swimmer is to pay close attention to what your coach says about stroke technique (or mechanics). Before you can ever swim fast you MUST learn proper stroke mechanics.
Be sure to occasionally ask your coach to watch your stroke and for help for improvement.
