Good question. There is a strong tradition in feminism of rejecting science and rationality as being male and therefore bad. Feminists tend towards non-scientific methods i.e. qualitative rather than quantitative. In other words they base a lot of their ideas on interviews conducted with a small group of women which are then very loosely analysed e.g. using grounded theory.

The real fun is when they try their hand at the more scientific methods - it suddenly makes you wish they stuck to interviews! Seriously, for anyone who actually knows how to do research it is really breathtaking to see the audacity of feminists who conduct utterly shoddy & biased work, and then parade the results in the media as fact.

They probably use the same sort of methods sociologists use.....surveys, surveys, and more surveys.
And census information...and statistics with interpretations that fit a specific agenda (but may actually have more than one interpretation.)
The same methods they teach in every sociology and basic science course: Observe, hypothesize, predict, and test (data collection, experimentation, etc).
Women's studies is a specialized category of sociology, so perhaps you'd like to challenge social scientists on their methods?
Typical methodolgy is something alike to:
Man = bad (+ woman =good)
All the usual social scientific methodologies.
You wouldn't get it. That's why this is called WOMEN'S Studies.
