My teacher got mad at me for no reason!?
Published by: rose 2010-03-17
  • Okay, so today in English, our teacher told us to get out our grammar books because we were having a pop quiz. I forgot my grammar book because he had only told us once at the beginning of the year that we needed our grammar book every Monday and Thursday (even though we really don't) and it is a Thursday. So then I told him that I forgot it, and he tapped on my desk and motioned me to come outside with him. I began to feel my face getting redder by the second (I have never really gotten in trouble before)! When I got outside he asked, "Have you ever played Monopoly?" Confused, I nodded my head. "Then you know you only get one free card, right?" I shook my head "yes" once more although I hadn't played that game in a while and didn't remember that part of it. "Well'" he continued, "this is your free card. I'm letting you do the quiz at home and you can show it to me tomorrow. Just make sure this NEVER happens again." I don't know why but I just feel so embarrassed about it now and feel like I don't want to go to school tomorrow because I don't want to see my teacher again! Also, I don't get why he got so mad at me for forgetting my book at home. Maybe it's because now I'm in Honors English and they expect more...I don't know, will someone please just tell me how to deal?

I couldn't do things they could because God said no. Of course, the one that got to me the most was sex. I was torn between two sides of my mind,

  • like seriously...u are over reacting
getting in trouble is like when u get detention
    thats how i see it

  • wow. this is such a BIG DEAL! -um sarcasm here-
i get yelled at every day and i have a's and b's and im a pretty good person. its not that bad. well i could see because your a goody you prob. dont get yelled at alot but still chill out

  • some teachers are just bitches

  • ummm that's normal
that's nothing to be afraid about all u have to do is do ur quiz at home and show it to him tommorrow and everything will be the same y be nervous

  • First of all, I admire you for caring about your performance in school. (Not everyone does)
Teachers, like students, have bad days...and sometimes that may be reflected in the teacher's actions. So, in other words, maybe your teacher was just having a bad day, and the fact that you forgot your book was just another thing to add to your teacher's bad day.
But....judging by what happened in the hallway and how your teacher responded to you (And I'm telling you from a teacher's point of view), it really does not sound like your teacher dislikes you or views you as an irresponsible person. If he did view you that way, he would not have allowed you to take the quiz at home, AND he would have belittled you in front of your class, as opposed to taking you into the hall.
My advice to you is this. I don't know when he's collecting this quiz from you, but if you can, go to school a little bit early tomorrow and hand it in to him. Apologize once more for your actions. He'll appreciate that.
If that doesn't work for you, just bring your book to class from now on. By doing that, you'll show you're someone who doesn't chronically forget things.
Good Luck in Honors English; that's a tough but rewarding class! :)

  • Be grateful he gave you the second chance. Do it at home and bring it in.

  • As long as u do the homework well and on time like they ask u
u have nothing to worry about and if the teacher says something that bothers u tell them and if they still flip out give them hell back and don't take **** u have earned the right to be treated properly in this class or any other if u have done ur job

  • thow ur book at his head and say hears ur book dick

  • he doesnt sound mean...he sounds pretty fine
i mean last year my english teacher hated me for obsolutly no reason. i sat there and did everything and payed attention. but he didnt like me.
    anywho just suck it up.

  • Be grateful that he is not giving you an F. Just do the test and get over it.

  • You didn't get in trouble. If he let you do it at home, he obviously wasn't mad. What's the big deal? I wish i had an awesome teach like that that would let me do my quizzes at home. I'm in advanced classes too and i hardly ever get in trouble but they NEVER let me take quizzes home!!

  • Here is a resource I came across. I has a lot of catagories and covers a wide range of Home School topics.

There are also some guide books there at no charge.

  • relax ur ****** flippin out not that big of a deal...

  • Bring your book next time. It's not his fault you decided not to follow the rules. I would thank him for not failing you on the pop quiz. you got lucky kiddo. That doesn't happen in the real world.

  • He wasn't yelling at you!
I'd be grateful that he didn't automatically fail you and is letting you take it at home.
From now on, be sure to bring your book so it doesn't happen anymore.

  • probably cus ur in honors

He was mad at me when he got out of the car and took it out on his teachers. . Okay … but in this case, though, there was no compelling reason for him

That isn't a reason for a teacher to get mad at a student. So what if you forgot your book? Was the pop quiz really that hard that you needed to look up all of the answers? I had to write a theme once in 6th grade twice because once I forgot my book and another time I forgot a pencil. The teacher shouldn't have made that big of a deal out of it, especially if this is the only time it's happened.

  • Everyone eventually gets a teacher they don't like whilst going through school. Theres not much we can do about it except keep our heads down and do our best. It sounds like he may have had a bad day so maybe he will be in a better mood tomorrow. There is not much left of this year so soon you will have a new set of teachers and you can get away from the other one.

    good luck

    xx

  • weird, but nice...

  • You just need to get over it and move on. Everyone makes mistakes, and your teacher knows that. When someone forgets their book, it makes it more difficult for teachers to do their job. That's why they get frustrated.

  • If it wasn't an honors class I would think your teacher was over reacting. I'm a senior in high school and the first difference I noticed between regular classes and honors/AP classes is that the teachers expect A LOT more from you. I wouldn't be offended by it. I think it was a little much for him to take you outside, but at least he gave you the "free card." Just remember to stay on top of things.
    Strange teacher....

  • He want you to do better in your life because you only get one chance

  • In the first place, he isn't "mad" (the word is "angry") at you. The guy has 5 classes at least, and there's no time or energy for anger with all the students who goof in any given week. He reserves that honor for the smart alecs, the jerks, those who break rules on purpose, etc. Since this is the first time you've made a mistake, you simply haven't learned to distinguish among the ways of registering disapproval--and it scared you. In the first place, you're an honor-class student, and he therefore expects you to behave more like an adult than the Elmer Fudds he has in his other classes. In fact, he used a simile to soften the blow, good English teacher that he is. Plus he avoided doing a childish thing that too many teachers forget--he didn't make you look silly and brainless in front of the class. He treated you with decency and respect by taking you out of the room--nobody else has to know what went on unless YOU tattle on yourself. If I had had a teacher that respectful I would have busted a gut proving to him that his confidence in me was not misplaced. If I were you I'd ask him before class ends if he could spare a couple of minutes. Then thank him and say you have a friend who pointed out a few things. Show him this, even. He was actually more disappointed than irritated, and he chose this way of saying "c'mon, you're smarter than THIS." Don't be embarrassed or fearful about him.

Years ago I gave a great assignment to a class. We discussed what constitutes "virtue" and divided the list into "active" and "passive." The class then had to go to 5-10 of their friends and family and ask them to write down three virtues they exhibited. Tabulate the results and choose one. Tell me a story about the time you exercised a virtue because it was a part of you and it felt good. Then tell a story about the time you overstepped the bounds and got carried away until it was no longer a virtue--in excess, even virtue can be a vice.
He wants you to exercise several virtues; ask him what they are and how you can develop them. Trust me; done right, this will blow him away. I also give him permission to use my idea--they wrote GREAT papers. By the way, except for too much slang, you belong in an honors class. I've taught English (you'd never guess, eh?) from sixth grade up through graduate school, and I want to see you conquer your fear and turn it into an asset.

  • Jeez, I zoned out at the second sentence.

Your English teacher probably hates your rambling prose.

  • Well teachers get a lot of well crap from students maybe he was just having a bad day? Or he could have expected more from you. Hey now you won't ever forget the book again will you? Maybe he was trying to scare you into remembering it?

  • Chill girl! I mean its no big And by the way nobodys going to want to read that whole paragrapgh your spazing out for no reason

  • I got yelled at for the first time today by my comp teacher I have sort of the same question check out the answers to my question on http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
