i have a qh mare that knows almost anything. she is very smart and is my favorite because she is so good. i just want to teach her how to slide ( like in western reining classes).
how could i go about doing that?

ok you start by going up and down the middle of the arena starting at a walk and using the arena fence as a help to you and your horse when you start to stop lean back and pull back on the reins and your horse will soon get the point.

You have to start with a horse that is very collected. When you ask the horse to stop, immediately ask it to hustle backwards, for several steps. Just keep working on this until when you stop her rear end will automatically start to back pedal. Once she learns to stop with her rear end in the ground she will lighten up on her front end and should step as she moved forward. When she has it down at a walk, work on it at a trot the same way. Then up to the lope, and on up through the gallop. Do not have sliding plates put on your mare until she learns to balance herself through a stop with out them, and fully understands what she is being asked to do. When you reach the point that she is ready for the sliding plates, get them and start all over again at the walk. Good luck.
You will have to find a trainer for that more than likely. That is something that is a more advanced maneauver for the horse and needs to be taught in the right way. But you will need to get slider shoes on the back hooves. The shoes are what allow them to slide to the length that they do.
